Text from Pages 1 - 120 of the 1981 volume:

In Memorium Live life to the fullest, that is what Jennifer did. Jenny wasted not one minute of her life. She knew her destiny and made the most of every living moment. Jenny showed us constant courage and in her strength we were strength- ened. We would see Jenny and then realize that our own problems were so small. Knowing Jen was an inspiration, and we, the Class of 1981, shall never forget her especial- ly at this moment in our lives.Graduation 1981!!! The 1980 Panthers gridders finished the sea- son with an 8-2 record. The Panthers were co- champions of the Northern Adirondack Confer- ence and eventually climaxed the season with a 42-8 pasting of Warrensburg for the SUPER BOWL” championship. The Panthers were led by the awesome backfield of Ed Edith Reinfurt and Brent Griffin. Reinfurt went on to become the Capital District’s second leading scorer. The officers were President Maureen Davock; Vice-President Maureen Davock; Vice- President Kelly King; Treasurer Jan Wysocki; Secre- tary Dawn Smith. Under the direction of advisor Margaret Frazier, the cheerleaders practiced long hours and made many posters and hoops. Eight girls went to camp and brought back a spirit stick (awarded only to most spirited), many ribbons, and the newest cheers and chants. Directed by Mr. Pederson, the cast and crew staged a brilliant production of The Sound of Music. Set in the Austrian village of Salzburg during the late 1930's, the story unfolds of a young postu- lant, Mariar Rainer, sent to be a governess to the seven children of the Baron Captain Von Trapp. While governing the children, Maria teaches them to sing and have fun. She and the Captain fall in love and marry; but while they are on their honey- moon, the Germans take over Austria and offer the Captain a job in their navy. Determined not to give in to the Germans, the Von Trapp family escapes over the mountains into Switzerland. The Von Trapp Family lives happily ever after, and so will the memories of the Sound of Music for the cast, stage crew and audience. “The Von Trapp Family in Concert Maria Rainer Mary Gilson ■ Sister Berthe .............................. It was the spring of 1980 and the Hoosick Falls Drama Club was ready to stage its play, “You Can't Take it With You. After months of work under the direction of Mr. Calvin Pedersen, all the lines were finally memorized, all of the staging set, and all of the lights were hooked up . .. The curtain rises on the living room in the house of Martin Vanderhof and his extended family: Penelope Sycamore (his daughter) and her husband Paul, Essie (their elder daughter) and her husband Ed, Alice Syca- more (the younger daughter), Mr. DePinna (the delivery- man who stayed 7 years), and many other assorted folk. This living room is the scene for all the action in this play. Here meals are eaten, plays are written, snakes collect- ed, ballet steps practiced, xylophones played, and print- ing presses operated. As the play progresses, the audience learns that Alice is embarrassed to have Tony Kirby (her fiance) meet her nutty family. Eventually he and his family do meet her family with disasterous results. As the curtain goes down for the last time, the audience, cast, and crew are all satisfied with a job well done. A record of this program is planned and will be the sixth stereo recording made by junior bands at Hoosick Falls. The band also performs at the Grange in Hoosick and provides a concert at the Health Center in the spring. The junior band will assist with marching music at the opening of the Lit- tle League season and will parade for the two Memorial Day celebrations in our district. The Hoosick Falls Junior Band is a most ac- tive band giving musical enjoyment to the school and community while they learn the art of musical performance. The boys have a friendly chat before the parade begins. mothers First row-M Monihan. A Harrington. M. Corbin, C Dewey, L. Stone. K. McGovern, J. Sheldon. Second row-C. Lohnes. K Bornt J. Ryan. E. John Zwiercan in Dedication The 198 graduating class dedicates the 81 edition of our yearbook to MR. PHILIP LEONARD. We recognize Mr. Leonard’s contributions to our high school. Mr. Leonard has in the past at H.F.C.S. been teacher, counselor and most importantly Superintendent. His vibrant personal- ity and dedication to us contributes to a wonderful school which we are all proud of. Often his expertise and guidance has gone unnoticed, but without his assistance the quality of Hoosick Falls Central would not be where it is. Last year the Honor Society named our chapter after Phil. This only goes to show that in some way we would like to say thank you. It is because of these reasons that we feel Mr. Philip Leonard deserves this token of our gratitude. 112 ii .. '
