The graduating class of 1977 has grown up through one of the most turbulent and eventful times in history. Be- ginning our formal education in 1964, one year after the assassination of President Kennedy, our school years were filled with many first's . The civil rights movement of the early sixties changed lifestyles all over America and resulted in the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. We saw the development of the NASA program and most of the U.S. watched Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin Jr. walk on the moon in 1969. We were old enough to understand the mechanics of war when the U.S. became involved in Vietnam. Many of us were introduced to the pain one feels when a family friend or relative dies in a war that seems to be accomplishing nothing. During that period, the problem of draft resisters and deserters became widespread problem that is yet to be fully solved. AS overpopulation and famine became greater problems throughout the rest of the world, we lived in a stable and relatively disasterfree community. The seventies ushered in higher crime rate and inflation along with higher standards of living in most of America. Then came one of America's greatest shocks in years: the Watergate scan- del. This touched every American's life revealing the corruptness of our government, all the way up to the Pres- ident. Following Nixon's resignation, we were confronted with the energy crisis which affected us by limiting our heat and lights in school and at home. Whatever surprises the future has in store for us, we are prepared for the worst, (and the best!) 4
