W I of tj N ' 0 il K A k yp- up 44. , f W I .pp-w -- I 'I On April 15, the fifteen members of the Class of '49 and our chaperons, Miss Ryan and Coach Furlong started on the long-awaited Washington-New York trip. Jim Lesson drove the school bus as fer as Albany, where a special train was waiting to complete the Journey to Washington. The train trip was long and hot, but the presence of a number of other school groups and our substan- tial lunches helped to make it bearable. We arrived in the Capital later than scheduled, about 7:50 P. U., and went directly to the Hotel Lafayette. The following morning we began three days of well-planned tours. One of the most interesting trips was the one to Arlington, Mt. Vernon, and Alexandria. Among our biggest moments were see- ing President Truman throw out the first ball at the opening game at Griffith Stadium, and our class dinner at Ruby Foo's. Most of the seniors liked lash- ington better than New York because of its beautiful buildings, wide streets, and attractive parks. Our trip entailed e lot of footwork, for we climbed to the top of Wash- ington Monument one day and on the next day in New York, we walked to the top of the Statue of Liberty. For our two days in New York, we made the Hotel Plymouth our headquarters, and met again several school groups with whom we had been associated in Washington: Cherry Valley, Dolgeville, Wells, and Mechanicville. Two of the most interesting and unusual places we visited in New York were Chinatown and the Bowery. We also enjoyed the Easter pageant at Radio City Music Hall. Our baseball-minded tourists were able to see major league games at both Ebbets Field and Yankee Stadium. We really had some quite exciting times and a great deal of fun. As I result of the combination of pillow fights,wrestl1ng matches, cold hamburgers, and itching powder, we arrived in Albany on April 21 quite exhausted. Memories of our vacation are kept green by the boys' pink shirts, Ken's tie, and the often heard 'How we doin', Mr. Goldberg?'
