Text from Pages 1 - 80 of the 1988 volume:

— The Last Setting Sun We exclaim “Friends now, Friends Forever.” The sun is setting on our glorious youth Golden water has been laid at our feet, and a spell has been cast upon us all giving us time to learn and love. Will this happiness end when we stalk a podium to receive that anticipated scroll? In our hearts the memories of each other will never die. The sun is setting but in just a few hours it will rise to greet a new day2 a new life, friend now, friend forever. — Jae Chungk HOOSAC OWL 1988 EDITOR: Marbie Parshall ADVERTISING MANAGER: Melanie Harnett PHOTOGRAPHY: Heather Foster, Cliff Ashley, Richard Lomuscio ADVISER: Richard Lomuscio E. GEORGE LAVINO ’26 ALUMNUS, TRUSTEE, GOOD FRIEND It is with great pleasure that we, the editors, dedicate the 1988 Owl to Mr. Lavino. Over the years Mr. Lavino has been one of Hoosac’s greatest champions. Joining the Board of Trustees in 1952 he has served as Chairman as well as on numerous committees. His enthusiastic support of the school has been unflagging, having seen the school through both hard times and good. At a dinner in his honor last December, Headmaster Donn Wright announced the establishment of a new endowment fund called the “E. George Lavino Education Trust,” thanking “Mr. Hoosac” for his years of dedicated service to the school. DEDICATION 2 TO THE CLASS OF 1988, Congratulations to you on the comple- tion of your secondary education at Hoosac. You’re the largest class that we’ve graduated in quite a long time. As one of your members pointed out, you’re “a larger group than the whole school was when I first came here.” You have led the school very well this year in athletic accomplish- ments and your Prefects have been among the best I can remember. I wish you all great achievements and happiness in your future. I would love to have you write once in a while and tell me what you are doing. ______ Deus Regit, ) , Donn Wright, Heaarha ter 3 You’ve Come a Long Way Baby! ... The girl’s soccer team earned a spot in the playoffs with a 3-5 regular season record, but lost to Darrow in the first round, while the first J.V. team in 3 years kicked their way to a 1-3 record. Boys Varsity soccer meanwhile played to a 7-4 record also earning a playoff berth, but lost to three-year defending champions — DeSisto early. Boys and girls varsity teams each placed two of their players on the Taconic All-Star Team. The Basketball team played a disappointing 1-9 season, but hopefully will do better when they begin playing in the new gym next winter. The Hockey team exchanged games with Schenectady and ended up 1-1 in their first season in several years. This year’s spring sports were very successful. Softball earned a 4-3 winning record, while Tennis broke even at 2-2. Lacrosse had its best season ever, ending the year at 7-4. JV SOCCER Front: Mark Rippa, Craig Warmer.
