A WINNING SEASON . . . but too much pressure . . . m “p X ressure,” said Varsity Coach Beth Car- penter, “was one of our chief problems this year. Eve- ryone’s expectations and the state ranking (12th, the last rank) really put the team in a pressure situation throughout the season.” Although the season was a good one, it was disappoint- ing. “Everyone thought the team would peak at the right time, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. The team just didn’t play with a lot of in- tensity. Too many times they played not to lose, instead of playing to win. Playing that way makes a big difference in overall performance,” re- ported Ms. Carpenter. She said, “Our team set two goals: to win the con- ference and to go at least as far as the team last year.” As she explained, “We met the first; we won the conference with a 10-2 record (21-4 overall). We play in an ex- tremely tough conference, so winning it really says some Christie, Jamie, Amber, Beth and Mary rest on their fire engine during thing about the team S abil- one part of the scavenger hunt, ities. However, we didn’t ac- complish the second since we didn’t go as far in the tour- naments.” Carpenter's parting line was upbeat: “We had a good season. No doubt about it.” VARSITY VOLLEYBALL Gibson City 2-0 Prairie Central 2-1 Iroquois West 2-0 Watseka 2-0 Paxton 2-0 Clifton Central 2 0 Gibson City 2-0 Prairie Central 12 Iroquois West 2-0 Paxton 1-2 Clifton Central 2-0 Watseka 2 1 — Sheldon Invitational Cissna Park 12 Grace Baptist 2-0 Milford 2-0 h Carla, Andrea, Darla, Shelley, and Gina look “TO THEIR FUTURE” on the scavenger hunt.
