DEDICATION Mrs. Bernice Layden Mrs. Layden The 1977 Picayune is dedicated to Mrs. Bernice Lay- den, who retired from HEL last year after some twenty years of teaching. Mrs. Layden was born in Walworth County, Wisconsin and attended high school at Burling- ton. She graduated from Marquette University and then taught for two years at Cashton, Wisconsin. After mar- rying Tom Layden in 1944, she moved to the Hoopeston area where she has lived ever since. Her position in District 11 included teaching at Lin- coln, Cheneyville, and Honeywell schools. From 1964 to 1976, she taught English and Speech at Hoopeston- East Lynn High. In between these times, Mrs. Layden took off a fourteen year period in which she had her seven children. During this past year, she has been busy spending time with her family, serving as bookkeeper for Hill Packing Company - a family enterprise, and quilting.
