Dedicated to the Memory of Our Jr lend and Jellow Classmate— Kelley OUR CHERI Full of love and smiles and glee. We called her “Our Cheri,” An Irish lass, with a French girl’s name, She came from a large family. Laughter was in her smile, A bounce was in her step. Lots o’ love was in her heart, For many friends she kept. Full of life and joy she shared, Sparkling eyes and silken hair, God knew what joy she’d add up there, So He took her in His loving care. Weep not for her, dear ones, She has found her place in the sun. Always remember as years pass by thee, Life is much sweeter, having known “Our Cheri”. 2 School Board Sitting L. to R. As you turn the pages of this book, may they recall many rewarding experiences and remind you of your many friendships. Best wishes to you, the graduating Seniors, in all your future endeavors. Continue to strive for success and give of your best in all that you do. Sincerely, Leo Huffman, Superintendent To the Seniors: I sincerely trust that your high school years have in some small way helped to equip you for meeting the challenges of to- day’s society. When there is so much emphasis on radicalism, drug addiction, generation gap, etc.—may you through critical thinking find the inspiration to meet these challenges. May you realize the importance of individual, social and political respon- sibility. May you not lose sight of God and the right way. To the Underclassmen: I would admonish you to strive for better future years. May you always be cognizant that much good can be had just for the taking. John F. J Zribute MRS. MARY MESSNER LIBRARIAN, HOOPESTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS, 1957-1970 During the forty years Mrs. Messner has served as a teacher and librarian, she has served her professional education organizations at the local, county, and division levels. Mrs. Messner has been active in professional education organizations and is a past-president of the East Central Division of the Illinois Education Association, Vermilion County Teachers Association and the Hoopeston Education Association. In the library field she has served at the national, state and loval levels in various capacities. She is honored with membership in Delta Kappa Gamma, international teachers honorary fraternity, and has served as president of the Vermilion county chapter. She was selected in 1957 by the Bismarck Junior Woman’s Club as “Outstanding Teacher of the Year.” She has served her community and church in many capacities. Among hobbies she includes reading, scrapbooks, and oil painting. She says she has collected various items as hobbies such as bone china cups, tea pots and pitchers; but lost interest in the projects when stor- age became a problem. “Students,” she says, “have been my main hobby; one of my most rewarding experiences has been seeing students be all they were capable of being. I have great confidence in young people, their creativity, and fresh approach to problems.” I still say, “Hitch your wagon to a star,” and admonish with a quote from a former professor: “The time is short but art is long”. There are so many exciting things ahead in education and the world I wish I were just beginning my career rather than ending it.” 65 Cibrary Club Officers: (left to right) Dixie Shoemaker, Treas.
