Yes, you guessed it, we were the class of '60. Out of our brilliant students we chose Jim Griner to be our president; Jerry Cox, vice-president; Cassie Dahlquist, secretary, and Kristie Kell, treasurer. Mrs. Keith Vines and Mr. William Whitehouse were selected as our class sponsors. Homecoming time came around and our sophomore class brought home honors by winning first place in the float contest. Sandy Hawthorne and Mickey McCullum took individual honors by being elected Home- coming attendants. Frank Young and Donna Fer- rell were our candidates for the Valentine Dance. All in all we had a wonderful year and oh the memories we shall never forget. Our junior year had even more exciting events in store. We elected Mike Frazier president; Wayne Carter, vice-president; Jerry Cox, secretary, and Ronnie Longest, treasurer. Our sponsors were Mrs. Malady and Mr. Jim Galloway. We had some bad luck with our Homecoming float because we only received a third, but we were very proud of our attendants Joyce Jordan and Donna Ferrell. We were delighted when all five cheerleaders were elected from our class. They were Barb Catron, Cassie Dahlquist, Janie Brockway, Kay Longfellow, and Lindy Marshall. Barb, Cassie, and Janie were re-elected for the next year. As the Valentine Dance rolled around again we selected Marilyn Harth and Melvyn Lockart as our candidates for King and Queen. Elaine Fliesser, Betty Nelson, Susie Smith, Joyce Jordan and Mike Frazier were honored by being elected to the National Honor Society. Our class was very proud to have the first American Abroad. Elaine Goss had a won- derful time in Germany. At last came the day we were the Sophisti- cated Seniors of '59-'60. We chose Ross Fetters as president; Barb Garmon, vice-president; Karen Beaver, secretary, and Kelsie Scott, treasurer. Our sponsors were Mr. Jim Galloway and Miss Helen James. The Senior class float took first place in the Homecoming parade. Barb Catron, Janie Brock- way, and Shirley Simpson were our nominees for Homecoming Queen with Barb Catron reigning as our queen. Our candidates for the Valentine dance this year were Karen Beaver and Jerry Cox and we were delighted to see them reign as King and Queen. Elected to the National Honor Society this year were Barb Catron, Cassie Dahlquist, Kristie Kell, Karen Emory, Bob Welty, Joe Hoskins, Ross Fetters and Jim Griner. Our Prom King Jim Griner and Queen Sandy Greene reigned over our Prom with their court Bob Welty and Kristie Kell, and Ken Poison and Sandy Hawthorne. We must not forget the students who served the school on the Student Council and of course not the ones who worked in and on the many wonderful plays. We, the seniors of '60, will truly miss our high school years but many memories will remain with us. It has been a long road sometimes not so easy, but the fun has out weighed the hardships. We went through our baccalaureate and commence- ment ceremonies with mixed emotions, most of us regretful and others happy to be leaving. We all walked slowly to the stage to get that wonderful piece of paper that means so much, Our Diploma. But that didn't mean the end of the 67 graduated Seniors of 1960. We were just beginning to climb the high, high ladder of success. 8 DONALD EUGENE ALLISON Pet Peeve: Girls with Ponytails. Will: I, Don Allison, will my ability to write poems to Georgia Strayer. STANDING (L. to R.): J. Brougher, D. Noyes. B. Johnson, R. Chesnut. The Junior Class History We neared the last rung in our ladder of success as we achieved the status of upper-class- men with the dignified title of juniors. We began our busy year electing class officers: Bud Johnson, president; Dennis Noyes, vice president; Jim Brougher, secretary; Randy Chesnut, treasurer; and sponsors Mrs. Betty Vines and Mr. William Reid. Terry Forshier had been elected and served as the vice president of the Student Council while Ann Benjamin, Judy Sheppard, Linda Rector, Den- nis Noyes, Dick Vines, Mike Milbum, and Jim Brougher represented our illustrious class on the council. Our junior beauties in attendance at the Home- coming were Marcia Hamilton and Suzi Mitchell. Our float, Tame That Tiger, won second prize that afternoon. We worked like beavers as we peddled maga- zines to finance the prom and give the seniors a night to remember. Arabian Nights and Aladdin and his wonderful lamp provided a fab- ulous setting and a memorable evening. To add the finishing touch as upper-classmen we received our class rings as symbols of our junior rating. Judy Sheppard and Jim Reese were queen and king candidates for the Valentine Dance. As in all cases we always had many representatives to select from. Honor Society recognized several of our juniors and initiated: Rosalie Fraley, Sharon Stark, Linda Potts, Kay Whitehouse, Jarold Strickler, and Jim Brougher. After much waiting, John Rossey was selected from a fine field of candidates by the American Field Service to go to Finland for part of his summer vacation. With many talented actors and stagehands taking part in the play productions, the junior class contributed much to John Greer Players success. Other honors bestowed upon our classmates were: Girls State, Linda Rector with Linda Potts as alternate; Boys State, Jim Brougher and Mike Milbum; Randy Chesnut received the Most Valu- able Player and free throw trophy in basketball; and we can't forget our cheerlovelies for the year, Linda Rector and Barbara Moore. Days to remember were Career Day at Oak- wood, semester tests, movie days, and Awards Day. All in all it was a hectic, happy year. We feel that we made numerous contributions to Hoopeston Senior High and that we will have left many footprints in her corridor of time. 22 TOP ROW. Left to Right Allison, Wilbur Anderson. Student Council representatives were also elect- ed. Those representing our class were Lynda Fer- rei, Linda Galloway, Rita Chesnut, Greg Ball, Bob Carlson, and Chip Speaker. Linda Galloway was chosen to represent the sophomore class as secretary of G.A.A. Jean Cade and Judy Nelson were sophomore Homecoming attendants. Our float, An Eary Victory, won third place. We had a fairly good year in our sports ac- tivities. Our basketball team ended the season with a 13-6 record, while our football team won only 2 games and lost 5. Carol Terry and Greg Ball were chosen King and Queen of Hearts candidates. Linda Lewis won first place, Mike Mannin won second, and Tom Weber won third in the V.F.W. patriotism essay contest. We were also very proud to have Ann Kaag as our Drum Majorette and Sandy Erickson twirier of the band. Many sophomores participated in the activities, including the plays. We are looking forward to becoming juniors and are hoping next year will be as successful and fun as this year. 28 TOP ROW, Left to Right Alber, C. Sports Summary Hoopeston's athletic ranks have been depleting for several years. The Comjerkers felt the chilly seasons that such a circumstance provides this year. Our football squad suffered their worst season of many, winning only the first two games. The basketball team did no better as they yielded to stronger foes steadily during their schedule. The track season was brighter due to the supremacy held by the Com- jerkers in field events. However bad luck plagued the baseball squad as they dropped all of their games. As far as winning, our teams fared poorly, but sports promoti deeper qualities than how to be a graceful winner. With this fact in mind, the disappointment is easier to bear, knowing that sports have been employed in the construction of better men. We also look forward to other seasons with the expectation of better results. 52 G. A. A. Officers (L. to R.) President___________________________________________B.
