OFFICERS President John Bergstrom Vice-President Delwyn Roark Secretary Martha Songer Treasurer Earl Longfellow Senior Class Story We, the Senior Class of 59, hold three distinguished honors. We were the last Hoopeston class to be gradual from the eighth grade, the last to attend a Hoopeston school as Freshmen, and the last class to be graduated that were students at John Greer when it was a High School. We started our high school careers by electing as our officers, Jack Gregory—president, Betty Mullins — secretary, and Jim Miles—vice-president. We were sponsored by Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Olson. Our Sophomore year we moved into our new Senior High building and were again cursed with being the litt! Freshmen of the school. Our sponsors were Bob Allen and Carmen Heacock while for officers we elected Jim Miles—president, Sandy Wells—vice-president, Barb Linck—secretary, and Joan Mott—treasurer. As our first year as upper classmen, we elected Jack Gregory—president, Bill Lloyd—vice-president, Joan Mott—secretary and Bud Longfellow—treasurer. We were all proud of the Prom we gave the Senior Class of 58. Our theme was Around the World in Eighty Days. Martha Songer and Larry McLain were our candidates for the Valentine dance and we were all delighted and honored when they were crowned King andQueen. John Bergstrom and Bill Lloyd represented our school at Boys' State while Marilyn Webb was representative for Girls' State. At the beginning of our Senior year we elected, what turned out to be, a hard working and efficient cabi- net. They were John Bergstrom—president, Delwyn Roark—vice-president, Martha Songer—secretary, anc Bud Longfellow—treasurer. The Seniors represented on the Student Council were Nancy McVicker, Nancy Herman, Tammy Walker, Andy Melin, Del Roark, and Bill Lloyd. Barb Linck was elected secretary and served the first semester, Mary Jane Silver—treasurer, Patti Mitchell — vice-president, and Marilyn Webb headed the clan as President. The Council’s foremost and most rewarding job was that of bringing the first foreign student, in Jette Pedersen, to Hoopeston. We all were honored and felt fortunate to know and go to school with Jette, and we will always re- member her. Homecoming festivities arrived and passed almost before we knew it. Our class float with the theme of We Expecting a Victory, won first place. Linda Lowe reigned as Queen of the Homecoming Dance. Her attendanf were Donna Smith and Jette Pedersen. Seniors chosen for Honor Society were Delwyn Roark, Dave Taylor, Sandra Edwards, who was elected secre- tary, and Carol Hartley. Bill Lloyd was elected president of the Society and, he, along with Patti Mitchell, Marilyn Webb, and John Bergstrom served their second year in the organization. Our many winter activities were highlighted by the Valentine Dance. Tammy Duffin and Ross Johnson were chosen to reign over the Sweetheart Ball. Contest time for the music department found Larry Ansley receiving a first at the district and went on to state to receive a number one rating. Spring brought on some of our final high school activities, which were, banquets, plans for graduation, Sen- ior Tacky Day, Senior Dignity Day, and Senior Teaching Day. Our final school dance, the Prom, found us being honored by the Juniors with a beautiful Hawaiian banquet and dance. The theme was carried out very well. The memorable event was highlighted by the crowning of tb King andQueen, Don Rector and Marilyn Webb. We chose red rosebuds for our class flower. Our class motto was Success is getting what you want--Happi- ness, wanting what you get. Bill Lloyd was named valedictorian of our class and John Bergstrom salutatorian. Marilyn Webb and Dave Taylor received the American Legion Good Citizen Awards and Patti Mitchell the Women’s Auxiliary Good Citizen award. Marilyn Webb was selected to receive the Susie Mills Scholarship award. Martha Songer and John Bergstrom were chosen for the DAR and SAR awards. Tammy Walker received the scholarship given by the Honor Society. Jette Pedersen was presented with a special American Legion award. We went through our Baccalaureate and Graduation ceremonies with mixed emotions; some were regretful and others—well,—just glad to get out. But all of us will carry a lot of fond memories and are thankful we stuck it out all four years.
