They started the year by selling megaphones to raise money. They sponsored a pep rally for every football and basketball game and at these rallvs a pep skit was usually given by a committee of the members. For each game they made locker decorations and placed signs throughout the building. The Pep Club made a float for Home- coming and helped sponsor Homecoming. At all the home basketball games, the Pep Club members sold refreshments. When Hooper won the right to go to State1' the Pep Club members made banners and signs telling of the event. The Pep Club worked very hard for the Athletic Banquet honoring all the boys who have participated in sports during the 1960-'61 school year. There was one revision to the Con¬ stitution this year and that was to have an alternate cheerleader to help the other five cheerleaders. For the basketball season the girls purchased material and made new skirts which was a very nice change. CHEERLEADERS: Standing, JoAnn Krohn. Gwen Dierking. This year the staff passed the paper out in the home rooms instead of after school as it had been originally done. The school also exchanged papers with twenty -two different schools. The whole class helped compile a guide for a mimeographed paper which will be a great deal of help to next year’s class. Several members of the class attended clinics where they were shown a number of ways in which they could improve the content of their paper. This was the story of a man and woman who met on their vacations and decided to get mar¬ ried. When they reached home they were sur¬ prised to find out that the other had children. From the first the children did every thing in their power to prevent the marriage and when the marriage was disclosed the children did everything possible to make their parents get a divorce. The children resorted to fits of lunacy, baby-talk, attacks with an ax, and strange ghost¬ like voices. Even Miss Lydia, the children's eccentric aunt helped persuade Mr. Henry Turner that he should get a divorce from Agnes Martyn. Begonia, the colored cook and Nicodemus, the handy man added to the fun. In the end the children confessed to the trickery and all was forgiven. The play was directed by Kenneth Johnson with Karen Husk as the student director. A quaint antique. ..I wonder, could it be con¬ verted to a lamp? Intramural Volleyball CHAMPIONS” FRONT ROW: J. Shaffer, S. Jahnke, K. McManigal, S. Shepard Captain. BACK ROW: D. Jensen, S. Shaffer. NOT PICTURED: G. Havekost, K. Krohn. Girls interested in competing in intramural volleyball signed up to play. Captains were elected by the girls and the captains chose their own teams. From then on it was a battle to see which team would come out on top with the champion¬ ship trophy at the end of the tournament which closed the volleyball season. Some of the girls proved to be outstanding athletes in the field of volleyball; but all the girls participating played hard and enjoyed the games. The sponsor for the games was Mr. Lloyd Unick. About twenty members of the class had the oppor¬ tunity to attend County Government Day. The class sponsored a Winter Ball semi-formal dance, and they put on an outstanding class play, the proceeds from which went for the annual Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. The juniors lost three members of their class this year, Larry Willmer, ThereseNacke and Eugene Childs. Harry Meeker, Sponsor Senior Class History Darold Nielsen, Sponsor sponsor was Miss As we leave the halls of Hooper High, we will long re¬ member the activities we have shared as a class, and also re¬ member our friends and class¬ mates through our four years together. Most of the Seniors will remember that first day when we entered the oaors of H.H.S. which was soon followed by Initiation Day. The highlight of the year was a Spring Dance which we sponsored. Our class Velda Stokke. Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Sixty-One Look Out, World! Here We Come! Yes, World, look out. Here comes the CLASS OF 1961. We may have to come back for more matches, but soon¬ er or later we'll set you on fire. Oh come on now Mr. Meeker, Sneak Day wasn't that hard on you! 44 The main events of our Sophomore year were that five waiters and five waitresses were chosen to serve at the Junior-Senior Banquet, and a picnic at the State Lakes to conclude the year. Our class sponsor was Miss Clara Schafersman. As Juniors, we picked up corn and conducted a car wash and slave sale to raise money. We also made a float for the Homecoming parade and won third prize for it. We gave a Junior Class Play en¬ titled, We Shook the Family Tree,” and sponsored a New Year's Eve Party. Hawaiian Cruise was the theme of the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom which we gave in honor of the Seniors. Our class sponsors were Mrs. Blanche Nitz and Mr. Scotty Willoughby. Our final year was started by sponsoring a Valentine Dance and making preparations for grad¬ uation pictures, announcements, and the final cere¬ mony. We again made a float for the Homecoming parade. We presented a Senior Class Play entitled A Ready Made Family. Our Sneak Day was April 28 and was believed to be the highlight of our last year, that is, next to the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom which the Juniors presented in our honor. Our class sponsors were Mr. Harry Meeker and Mr. Darold Nielsen. Some of our classmates have joined us and some have left us through our four years. Joining us the second semester of our Freshman year were Jeannie Schumacher and Mary Shaffer. Mary now attends school in Fort Knox, Kentucky. In our Sophomore year, Eileen Poyar and Fred Gustin joined us. Eileen now attends Fremont Bergan High School, and Fred attends Ceresco High School. In our Junior year Sandi Danskin and Judy Hogan became new members of our class. Judy now attends school in Helena, Montana. During the second semester of our Junior year, Louis Wegner left us. He now attends high school in Fairbanks, Alaska. As Seniors, Ed Donnelly and Lloyd Gobel left us. Ed is now serving in the Navy at Okinawa, and Lloyd is living in Fremont. We will long re¬ member these people. Now that our high school days have come to a close, we are sorry to leave the halls of knowledge and good times we have had, but we are looking forward to the future. Some of the students attended clinics where they were given a lot of ideas for this year's annual. They also printed a guide for a yearbook which will be used by next year’s class. The school purchased a new camera for the Journalism class to use. It was a great help in taking the pictures that were needed.
