Assistant Editor was Mary Schafersman. Besides helping super¬ vise the production, she was a great help in the advertising campaign. A good job was done by Cindy Mintken, as Business Manager, and Emily Kraemer as assistant. Cindy managed all business affairs and correspondence for the Cardinal. Emily also proof readand helped in the Activities section. Selling annuals was the sole responsibility of Jerry Dorfmeyer, Sales Manager. The position of Advertising Manager was capably filled by Marilyn Smeal. Her assistant was Sharon Shepard. Due to the efforts of these three, the annual ' s financial problems were solved. Judy Hansen served as the photographer, taking most of the pictures for the Cardinal. She was assisted by Jerri Janssen and Sandi Danskin. Jerri also served as Underclassmen Editor, and Sandi, as Faculty Editor. Senior Editor, Carolyn Moore, had the task of organizing the Senior section. Sports Editor, Lila Bartling, designed and produced the Sports section of the Cardinal, as did all section editors. Doris Peters and Margie Clausen, Activities Editors, had a big job, which they completed very satisfactorily. As Art Editor, Cecil Hocking did a lot of the artwork for the other sections, helping wherever he was needed. Each member of the staff helped in selling advertising space, and many snapshots were con¬ tributed by friends and classmates. A special thanks is due to Mr. Bill Robley and Mr. Dale Feenstra, who were willing to give some of their time to take pictures for the Cardinal. BELL TYPEWRITER CO., Fremont 40 WILLIAM EGGERT CHRIS JENSEN Queen Cynthia and King Ron First Prize Winner I could have danced all night One of the outstanding high-lites of the school year at Hooper High is Homecoming which took place on November 6, 1959. The Homecoming started with a parade through downtown Hooper featuring floats made by the classes and other class organizations. First prize of $15 went to the F.F.A., second prize of $10 went to the Sophomore class, and third prize of $5 went to the Junior class. The queen candidates: Cynthia Mintken, Joanie Liston, Carolyn Moore, Lila Bartling, and Shirley Havekost; and the King candidates: Ron Moll, Dan Schaulis, Lyman Larsen, and Jerry Dorfmeyer, rode in the parade in two colorful convertibles. Following the game the annual Homecoming Dance was held. The candidates walked through an isle of Pep Club girls up to the stage where the 1958 King and Queen: Gary Nott and Karen Havekost crowned the King and Queen of 1959 — Ron Moll and Cynthia Mintken. The Junior Class presented ' We Shook The Family Tree ' on December 4, 1959. An innocent young girl named Hildegarde is trying to attract a date for the Prom by winning the school debate. Her mother fears she may miss the big dance, so arranges a date. Hildegarde is in ecstasy although she doesn ' t know the boy ' s name, she lays it on thick—until the prospective date sounds like a Hollywood star. But her mother has picked the one boy in school who wears knickers! He ' s a swell guy, but those short pants make him the joke of the school. Hildegarde learns the truth and pleads to break the date, but Father is mad. Furthermore, the knicker- attired date, Freddie, is the son of Father ' s boss. Father, worried about his job, invites his boss home to prove how sensible his family is. But Hildegarde, her face smeared with beauty clay, dashes screaming into the room. Then Freddie bursts into the room with long pants and Hildegarde ' s brother tackles the boss by mistake. But all works out, for Freddie gets a new suit. The curtain closes as Hildegarde and Freddie leave for the Prom. All will agre e the Junior class presented a very delightful play. The program included a dialogue and a monologue by little girls, The Gary Less Show, a scene at Mac Duffy ' s Tavern with a real Polka Band, some Oriental Dancers, a musical act-up, a pantomime, and a playgirl who bothered the M.C. Even the commercials were hilarious. The only serious part of the program was at the end, when the class will was read and the entire Senior class joined in the singing of Halls Of Ivy. We done it! ! ! 47 Sneak Day X: This was Sneak Day. The seniors left at 5:00 a.m. for Omaha. On the way down, they stopped for breakfast and for a tour of Boys Town. The rest of the day was filled with a trip to a radar control tower, lunch at the Town House, tour through KMTV Studios and a stop-off in the business district. The Fireside Restaurant was the scene of the evening meal, and the Orpheum Theater pro¬ vided entertainment for the evening. 48 Jr.-Sr. Banquet and Prom WAITERS WAITRESSES Duane Liston Lynn Moeller Don Meier Larry Engdahl Chuck Danskin Jo Hansen Joyce Schurman Virginia Wagner Mary Bauer Jeannine Fellows PROGRAMME Hawaiian ' Koma Mai ' --Jr. President Aloah But Not Good-Bye --Sr. President Wind And Hurricane --Steve Moeller Aloha Oe (Love To You) — Dave May Serenade Of The Island --Jane Schole Ideals Of The Isle --Cynthia Mintken Isle Of Golden Dreams --Mr. Willoughby MENU Hawaiian Punch Game Of The Jungle Moon Drops Chopped Bamboo Fruit Of The Island Lilikoi And Papa Taro Cake Mango Ice Cream Poi Cocoanut Milk Hawaiian Cruise was the theme carried out for the Jr.-Sr. Banquet and Prom held at the high school gym, May 6.
