Although the season startecl, off with a bang the Bulldogs seemed to bog down, and finished the season with only the one win to their credit. The blue and white were led by seven seniors, Merle Venable, Wayne Parker, David Johnston, Billy Jo Matter, Eddie Learning, Jim Countryman, and Jerry Bauman. A glit- tering array of underclassrhen made up the rest of the squad, some of them making their initial gridiron appearances. After a slow start, the Bulldogs proved tough in the closing games of the season and rallied gamely to win 4 of their last 6 games. ln spite of an 8-T3 re- cord, Hooker had a steadily improving squad who could give any team on the schedule a close battle on a good night. Jerry Hale, the tall, relaxed sophomore and team captain, with a ten-point average, easily paced the scorers. Cther consistent point makers were Eddie Leaming, Jesse Hendrix, and Bounce Venable. The Bulldogs' prospects for next year appear good, although two seniors, Venable and Leaming, will be gone. Much credit for the squad's success goes to Janet Stell and Beverly Hendrix, two outstand- ing guards, who will graduate from the line-up this year. Stell was team captain.
