'Bt Whule thumbung througla the old Mascots and Drag ons we came across thus statement un the IQZS Mascot Thus year marks the twentueth annuversorv of Hood Ruver hugr school Mascot There us no doubt that thus year of ruuneteen hund ed and tufty eught brungs the Dth annuversor, to the annual staff lt was the year l909 when the furst Mascot was publushed Sunce M9593 the name was changed and us now known as Dragon The reason for the change Iues un a comment that was found ur the V938 Dragon choosung a new theme the staff has attempted to brung the book unto closer assocuatuon wuth our school as tts lute us to av We were also uruous about our htgh school hustoru, and thus u what we found Authorltues have concluded that the date lS66 was when the turst school for educa tuon was buult Neuther the locatuon ot the buuldung nor the buuldung utselt us known absolutely lt could have been one room buuldung or a room un someones resuderucc The orugunal school dustruct was No l-4 lt began or c obe Za l86D L ter un l89O thus dlstruct wa changed to school dustruct No 3 Park Street school was completed un l885 ln l902 the board of dlrectors held a soecual meetlng to establush the nlnth and tenth grades Before all thus happened the people everywhere and newspapers too were fughtung the hugh schools They argued that tree educatuon should not contlnue above the eughth grade Fortunately the hugh schools won out ln l9OS the Pleasant Vuew school now known as the Leguon hall was erected and used untul l908 when the Hood Ruver hugh school was buult The latter school us recognuzed as the old May Street school The deducatuon of thus school was qutte a celebra tuon State Superuntendent Ackerman added to the cere mony wuth hus talk about the new buuldung l preduct that you wull have un fuve or ten years JOO hugh school students You wull have a room set apart for the teachung of domestlc scuence where the young ladues wull learn to keep house un the verv best way You wull have another room set apart for manual traunung where also wull be taught elementary horturtul lure You can buuld up a hugh school here equal tc P wrt larld He descrubed the school as a magnutucent buuldtu g that the people of Hood Ruxer should be proud ot Funally our present Alma Mater was buult un Now a part ot Hood Ruver Hugh school we watch Mr Ackerman s p ophecy evolve , W . 4 ,S fu - Y.
