Q0 af iigje who made possible the erection of Gambrill Gymnasium, we dedicate this book-the 1950 'TOUCH- STONE. With the thoughtin mind of an ever-developing college community, a need was felt for more suitable facilities for the athletic program of Hood College. Years of planning and continual revision by many have been di- rected toward this goal. Past and present Athletic Associations, Miss Marion Smith, the students, faculty, trustees, and administration, have given un- 'stintingly of their time and money, and without the help of the Alumnae Association, the project would not have been completed. One of our most generous endowments, the Hodson fund, made possible the building of the pool, named in Colonel I-Iodson's honor. It was in May of 1947 at the ground-breaking ceremony that President Emeritus Henry I. Stahr announced that the gym would be named in the honor of James H. Gambrill, Jr., one of Hood's most devoted benefactors. Final dedication .services were held on November 16, 1949, signifying the completion of a project that many had dreamed of and wgrked for, 4 The dedication of this book we hope will express in part our deep ap- preciation tok those who made Gambrill Gymnasium possible. 4 V .
