A MESSAGE BROM Tig cesidenl oe The three ablatives that comprise our motto, Corde et Mente et Manu, may quite literally be translated-- with heart and mind and hand. It is altogether fitting that mind should occupy the central place, for the things of the mind must be central in our college program. No college is worthy of being called an educational institution where intellectual pursuits and the academic program are not central. We usually think of the heart as the seat of the affections. Hood. to a unique degree, has the love and affection of her daughters. Without the heart, the intellect is cold. Heart and mind belong together. They are inseparably fused at Hood in the love that Hood students and alumnae have for their Alma Mater. Linked with heart and mind is the hand, which typifies service. Four years at Hood are years of preparation fitting successive genera- tions of students to give the world worthy and devoted service. Thus do we ever go forward seeking to exalt the things that are true, honor- able, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. President and Mrs. Stahr

ALMA MATER High tower above us, thy columns so fair Gleaming white in their calm majesty; Thus long have they battled the wild storms of time And will stand in the years yet to be. Tho’ we wander afar from thy sheltering walls, Borne along on life’s rough surging sea; Yet our hearts, Alma Mater, unchanging and true, Will be loyal and faithful to thee. Hood College, above thy dear, green-ivied walls, How fond memories cluster and twine. There are friendships so golden that bind us to thee, Preparation for life, too, was thine. May we never forget thy lessons so true But honor and praise thy dear name, In our joy and our tears, in our triumphs and fears, May our lives eer be worthy of thee. [8]
