It wasn't hard for the Juniors to be vanquished on Campus Day by these special members of their own college family. We only hope they gain the object of their hunting expedition for knowledge. What could escape those 160 members | of the Freshmen exploring party? But we came in second! We are equally proud of that. We broke our own defeatist idea that '42 would never get anything but fourth place on Campus Day by our band of drum majorettes putting ''Hood on Parade. We like the Sophomore and Senior Classes, and we admit the Alpine-climbing Sophs, and student prince Seniors were good—but we have to gloat a little over our own particular success! for a good time was had by all - freshman class o CORNELIA LEE PAYNE 3 ee rer tore MARYLYN. Was there one among us who failed to bubble over with Christmas joy and reflect from head to toe that peace and good will’ sentiment? Unquestionably you'll agree that, as far as Hood is concerned, no such person could be found. Oh, yes, it all started casually enough. Before we realized it we were in the throes of the Round Robin Teas. You will recall how the faculty trotted about from various dormitories, chatting gaily and shaking hands, while tasting the various efforts of Mrs. Parker, Miss Loomis, and Miss Rudy. Blew Ores ete ee Oe ee. Ore Then came Sunday, with morning communion and afternoon and evening Christmas Vespers. The greens, the rows 'n’ rows of candles, the choir and the impressive Christmas music will forever remain a part of those ‘golden memo- . ries. Yes, it was a real outpouring of religious spirit—but who is not inspired at such a time? Rushing on in the wake of Vespers was the annual Christmas Banquet. The | picture included formal dress, student rivalry for the finest table decorations, the lighted tree, the Yule Log ceremonies, the Nursery School at little tables with Santa Claus, in person, and then the feast with all the fixin's. Then, too, : came the annual activities of the ''Y, ' baskets and gifts for the needy in addi- tion to their Christmas parties. | All leads to the climax—the last day. Long before daybreak, we struggled sleepily into our clothes, and set out in darkness. What a thrill we got from sing- ing the good old Christmas carols. And we received a real welcome for our songs—maybe the bags of candy we passed out helped. It is just as well we do not know how the faculty reacted to our efforts, but to return to campus, we have the final hustle and bustle to pack, joyful exchanges of greeting, cheers, songs, farewells, autos, taxis, trains—homeward bound to eats, treats, and dates! twas the night before chrstmasr vacation Wy. cram all day, and we burn the light all night. We wonder how we could have forgotten everything so quickly. We consume quantities of food and an amazing amount of coffee. We discover all sorts of strange nooks and crannies in which to study ... and we think the week will never end! Cuan has a good time at an all- college dance. We live in days of anticipation until the gala night finally arrives. We rush through dinner at the F. S. K. and go back to the dorm to put on our newest and most flatter- ing dress. Then we arrive at Coblentz to join the crowd of dancing couples. There are palms, col- ored lights, and a smooth swing band .. . but it's all over so quickly! Let the band swing out ies (Ole Y) LU ©) Bab a ) (as ==) O i Poe Ome WW =O 2+ foe ih, ES O Y) LU OZ =) If O [aXe junior class. 0 GERTRUDE; GARMAN =. 3) 555) eee Presiden: DOROTHY LYNAM: 299) [eyes eV eer ccriond JEAN BROWN Woy Sis ee cert ar KATHERINE: WATKINS: 3 9 2 eT ree etree ' 4 ' J ; SSSEEN OR ABEL mile e Aspiring toward the best in life ... quantity of culture .. . bound- less energy . . . hands filled with work capable always striving to please... a leader .
