ICWYT if Nnrf' 9-cn-Irs, Q' SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE The continuance of our American way of life depends upon the way our citizens are educated. As the problems of society become more com- plicated, the education of our people becomes more difficult and requires more time. A hundred years ago, when mastery of the rudiments of the Three R's was sufficient, the necessary schooling could be obtained in a few years. Now many years of school attendance are necessary. And, more and more our people, to meet changing demands of life, are supplementing their schooling with Adult Education. Since change in a dynamic society, such as we cherish, is inevitable and inescapable, education will always be playing an important part. As it plays this role we will find that what education was intended to do or be in the past does not necessarily include what it should be or do in the future. Good administrative practice involves cooperative deliberation by teachers, parents, and the community at large. Although less than half of the homes in a given community are directly affected oy having children in the schools, all other homes are affected indirectly. Our program of public education should provide for every educable child, youth, and adult. Each individual should have the kind and amount of education which will make him most useful to himself and to others according to the principles of American Democracy.
