NBS X Football Sweetheart Ehzabeth Pe rk1ns XX l N The Honey Grove WHFTIOFS journeyed to Wh1tewr1ght to open the1r 1947 season Although the Warr1ors foughthard they were defeated Z4 O After the d1sappo1ntment of the Whltewrlght game and a week of hard workouts the Warr1orsh1t the1r strlde 1n defeat1ng Deport 40 0 Thorn ton Laughlln and P1or scored two touchdowns each wh1le Guthr1e scored once Th1S was the f1rst conference game of the season The Warr1ors played host to the Ladoma Rattlers at Warrlor Park for the thlrd game of the season Operat1ng w1th a br1ll1ant pass1ng game the Rattlers defeated the Warr1ors Z5 6 Thornton scored from the Z0 for Honey Grove s only score The next Fr1day n1ght found the Warr1ors at home agaln playxng host to the Commerce T1gers for the second conference game of the season After a scoreless f1rst half the T1gers scored on a pass play 1n the thlrd quarter Laughlln scored for the Warr1ors 1n the fourth per1od on a 85 yard run back of a pass 1ntercept1on The Warr1ors played hard but the f1nal score was Commerce 7 Honey Grove 6 The WBTTIOTS journeyed to Leonard for anon conference game w1th the powerfulLeonard T1gers The Warr1ors were defeated by the score of 40 0 The Warr1ors lead 1D f1rst downs but were never successful 1n crosslng the goal On October 25 the WaFr1OrS were 1n Sherman for a game w1th the Sherman B Team The Warr1ors found the breaks aga1nst them and were beaten 12 7 1n another close game P1or scored for the Warr1ors 1n the fourth perlod and Thornton caught a pass for the extra po1nt but the score ended Sherman 12. Honey Grove 7 to f ,, X X 1 le, . X. FOOTBALL TEAM On November ll the Warriors were in Cooper for their third con- ference game. At the end of the half the score was 7-6 in favor of Cooper. The first three quarters the Warriors played fine ball but in the fourth quarter the Cooper attack started clicking and they pushed over three touchdowns to beat the Warriors 35-13. Laughlin scored in the second half from the one yard line and Thornton caught a pass from Laughlin in the third quarter for the second score. Thornton also scored the extra point.
