ATUYQUDUC Tennis Club Under the sponsorship of M188 Ferrill the tennis club was organ1zed thls year with about seventeen members in lt Lynn Roddy was elected PTCS1dCDt and Virg1n1a Wh1t1ey Secretary at the flrst meet1ng, but V1rg1n1a Dale Wood was later elected to take Virg1nia Wh1tley's place as Vlfglnla W was forced to drop out All members of the club were required to pay a tennis fee at the beg1nn1ng The club was confronted with the ser1ous problem of getting a new net as the old one was worn out when the school made it posslble by a l1beral donation The highllght of the tennis playlng at the h1gh school this year was when the t nnms club held 1ts el1m1nat1ons to see who would represent Honey Grove dl 1n the county meet In the boys doubles William Gordon and Herman Smlth defeated Bobby Evans and BTICC Dledrick in the prelxminarmes, but were defeated thenr selves by Lynn Roddy and Rlchard h1tley 1n the finals In the prel1minar1es of the boys' s1ngles Evans defeated Robinson, Whlt ley defeated Evans, and Vh1tlev defeated Gordon 1n the first bracket In the secon o k t penser defeated Thrasher, Roddy defeated Dledrick, and Roddy def ated Spenser Whltley defeated Smlth in the seml flnals, elimln t ng everyone but Roddy and Whitley who represente foney L c H1 1n boys' doubles, Roddy ln slngles In the glrls' doubl Jimmy Robnett and Katherlne Wllson defeated Mary Jlm Warts n ld Frances Fielding in the flnals Frances F1eld1ng came o1+ f1Ct0T1OU8 in the g1rls' sin gles Although we d1d not have n1mp1onsh1p team this year, we feel that the tennl club 1 great success Pep Squad The Honey Grove Pep Squad was hrghly successful this year, being the largest pep squad Honey Grove H1 has ever had It was composed of about seventy boys and girls The leaders who were elected at the first of the se son were Rlchard Whitley, Virg1nia Whitley, and Jargaret Conine, who were very faithful throughout the season The g1r1s wore uniforms of whmte sklrts and orange blouses, the boys' uniforms were white trousers and sh1rts wxth orange ties The pep squad gave the football boys their unlim1ted support all season, 1U sp1te of the fact that the weather conditlons were unfavorable 1n several instances Durlng the season the pep squad gave dmfferent performances during the halves w1th Joe McKenzie and Bob Self as mascots The pep squad got a great thrill out of defeatlng the Bonham Pep V f' ! 3 ' 6 I 1 A 3 u X I o, as er-up 1, els -- . . . . , o . . . . . . . . . . , . . .
