I ,D 5 3 ff 0 , 5 Pm 1966 K' 3' ID y 4, 4 1 This is the year of our Lord one thousand nineteen hundred and fifty four, our last year in high school Where will we be ten or twenty years from now? Will our dreams all come true? No, I realize that cannot be But I hope my classmates are all fa1rly happy and successful in the future I do w1sh I knew what my friends and classmates w1ll be doing twenty years hence Perhaps might use a radar scope? I decided to consult the mathemat1cal and sc1ent1f1c gen1us of Honeoye Central School, Mr Russell B May, and together we dev1sed a way to see into the future After weeks of construct1on and study we were ready he stepped 1nto the laboratory turned out the l1ghts and sat before the radar screen and concentrated w1th all our strength Presently a vague pattern emerges Max Blackmer, pres1dent of our class, comes 1nto view What can Max be do1ng9 Surely Max was go1ng to be a farmer Has Max Blackmer Joined the creamed chrcken on patty shells C1FCU1t9 Yes, there stands our Max before an aUd1enCe of ador1ng women of the Womens Club Sure enough' He has become one of the foremost lecturers 1n the country HIS most famous and popular lecture is SHCIUISG WLad1es, Learn How to Remodel Your Husbands, or Is Your Spouse a Louseqn Good for Max' The stalwart f1gure of Max fades away and I see noth1ng but parallel l1nes of l1ght I stare at the screen expectantly and presently a nebulous f1gure emerges Lester Mastln He seems to be completely clothed 1n wh1te Seated beh1nd h1s COnSU1taC1On desk he leans forward and sm1les reassur1ngly at the anX1OUS looklng woman seated across from h1m h1s vo1ce T1HgS out, nMadam, your ch1ld 1S allerg1c to Pablum put h1m on a d1et of corn meal mush Lester seems to be a succes ful ped1atr1c1an H15 b6dSld6 manner has all the k1dd1eS land the1r mothers'l flocklng to h1m Lester's face, beam1ng klndly over h1S thick lensed glasses, gradually fades from Slght The radar screen seems to vibrate surely some dynamlc personallty 1S about to appear Vert1cal l1nes of light dlssolve and presently a small vibrant f1gure materlalizes It 15 our classmate, Carole Holland She seems to be 1nStPuCt1ng someone Yes, the p1cture 1S clear now our Carole, clothed 1n a stunn1ng bathlng suit, 1S 1nstruct1ng an eager class of would be sw1mm1ng stars Surely she 1S well qual1f1ed because as we watch and l1sten we learn that she herself was the Champ1On d1ver and free style 5W1mm1Hg champlon at the 1960 Olymp1c games, wh1ch, 1nc1dentally, were held at Honeoye Lake because of 15S 1ncomparable sports fac1l1t1es Who would have dreamed that shy, unathlet1c l1ttle Carole would be a famous sw1mm1ng star' Almost before her lmage fades from Slght the radar screen begins to take on a peculiar glow which shapes IULO the brown robed f1gure of a Trapp1st monk The Apparently he was so silent yes, silent' person before us 15 Hal McKee 1mpressed with that descr1pt1on we all heard in assembly of the beaut1ful s1lence of the Trapp1sts that he declded to ask them to allow h1m to part1cipate in their program as long as he could follow their rules Of course, slnce one of their primary rules is absolute S1lenC6 no speech, no commun1cat1on we are dazed at the thought that our talkat1ve, lOqU8C1OUS old fr1end Hal 15 able to keep the Hal places h1s f1ng8PS agalnst h1s 11pS to 1nd1cate s1lence and vow of s1lence fades gently from v1ew fhat's th1s The shape of our own school looms before us, several add1t1ons on lt to be sure, but lt 15 st1ll our old school The screen V1bP8C65, also rocks, as the p1cture concentrates on the pr1nc1pal's off1ce and a vo1ce booms out, Now hear th1s It 1S Ed Hoag, now pr1nc1pal of Honeoye Central H1s secretary cowers be31de h1m dressed 1n a protect1ve Un1fOTm that resembles a football UH1fOPm and a catcher's mask He plcks up a club and smacks lt across the desk repeatlng, HNow hear th1s For sk1pp1ng school and nhot rodd1ngU around dur1ng noon hours, LOUIS Mast1n, I propose to keep you 1n t1ll 8 o'clock tact nlght includ1ng Saturdays and Sundays with another blast of h1s vo1ce the D1CtUF9 13 gone 16 :QW un , sz W he now p1ck up a color V1SlOn of Stat1on TLCK TV We hear the gong as we see two female figures struggling 1n the center of the r1ng Yes, lt is our classmate, Helen Huff, now known as WT1ck the Terr1ble,W world champion woman wrestler End of the f1FSU round flHdS her opponent mangled and limp upon the mat Her manager, comes through the ropes carry1ng her robe He seems fam1llar hy it is our own Nr hood, having long s1nce given up the less lucrative profession of teach1ng h1story for the excit1ng and prof1table career of managlng the top wrestlers such as nT1ck the Terr1ble W Inc1dently the next bout he has eduled for her 15 NT1Ckn agalnst nThe Sheep from Shearla ' Again nothlng but hOP1ZOHt3l lines of light but after intense pro3ect1on of our own thoughts we are able to see a d1m picture What's this99 DaV1d Flood tripp1ng across the meadow w1th a butterfly net in puPSU1C of the elusive Luna Spectaquorus' We watch h1m, fasc1nated, as w1th 1nf1nite sk1ll he claps the net over a rare specimen A cheer goes up from the spectators as his followers slav1shly follow every movement Apparently he 1S a very notable entomolog1st with h1s own fan club 1n constant attendance' As qu1ckly as the 1mage appeared it leaves us r may and I lean forward and tw1ddle hopefully w1th the d131S Presently a l1ght appears, grows and takes shape Ah' Clearly before us on the radar screen we see a man bent over a desk wr1ting buslly back Place a foam1ng beer bottle 1n the w1ndow every n1ght and he'll be back fqignedl Your AdV1SOF on Problems of the Heart Uncle Jack washburn Well, that's a sw1tch we never would have dreamed that Jack would become the wr1ter of an advice to the lovelorn column His desk seems to be stacked high with ma1l HIS sports Jacket is very beautifully ta1lored so apparently h1s column 1S a big success In fact as me see h1m close up h1S office for the day and watch h1m gO1ng out to h1s car our eyes nearly pop' He cl1mbs 1nto a solid gold C3d1ll3C w1th sol1d gold Hollvwood mufflers Off he roars and the screen goes black Almost before the flash of gold fades, another p1CCuTE appears with sound effects' Into the center of a br1ll1antly l1ghted C1PCuS r1ng steps a stalwart figure dressed 1n top hat, ta1ls, and br1ght red trousers He cracks a wh1p apalnst h1s sh1ny black boots He starts the show off w1th a bang as he steps on a banana peel and falls flat on h1S face It 15 our old fr1end, Art Nowak Unabashed by h1s m1shap, he p1CkS hmmself up and the show goes on Art seems to be keeplnp a husbandly eye on one of the young trapeze aPt1StS Her ha1r lS flam1ng red and she 1S very beaut1ful In utter fasc1nat1on we watch the performance yo on, always keeping our eyes on the sklllful r1ng master Now the act 15 over and we watch Art tak1ng the red headed aer1alist by the arm and walklng off with her to get a banana split Careful where you drop the banana peel' Nice g01ng, Art The screen 15 dark, we stretch wear1ly but not for the world would we take our eyes from the screen Suddenly we hear the beat of Jungle drums' Splashes of l1ght streak across the screen Presently an amazing scene takes shape A great herd of g1raffes the screen, followed by chatter1ng hordes of monkeys, exotlc and swarming small an1mals, all in mad flight shoot across troplcal b1rds veldt before our eyes strides a small val1ant f1gure, armed to the 1n smart hunt1ng att1re Can lt be lt is' Margaret Green 13 a hunter' Behind her follows a straggl1ng l1ne of n8t1Ve boys,
