His everlasting patience and his love for music has caused him to be an inspiration to all the members of the band. The Hondo Owl Band was begun in the summer of 1951 under the direction of Mr. Al Sturchio. In October of 1951 Mr. Bob Lewis came to Hondo to take over the dif- ficult task of completing the organization of the band. In 1952 the band entered its first Interscholastic League Contest and held its first band banquet. With the help of Mr. Lewis, the band received the Sweep- stakes Award in 1954-1955 and continued to win it for the following three years under his direction. J-larzdo High RJ i.J,,x IO In August Of 1957, Mr. E,J, Lee came to I-Iondo to take over the strenuous task of directing the band. That year the Owl Band again received the Sweepstakes Award for outstanding performances. In 1958 the band made a second at its marching contest in Pearsall, but it came through with a first in concert and sightreading. The Hondo student body is proud of the Owl Band because of these outstanding a- chievements. Frank Holden and his as si stant, Mariano Ortiz, are in charge of keeping the football and baseball fields attrac- tive. 3. Mrs. Wentz, supervisor, and the other cafeteria employees, Mesdames, Zerr, Nietenhoefer, Hartman, and Neuman, prepare attractive and nutri- tious meals forthe high school and Lacy school students. 100 uni, A pleasant environment is a great aid to concentration. One of the reasons that the Hondo students do so well is that they have a very pleasant atmosphere in which to work. This is due to the efforts of our school ern- ployees. These employees--the cafeteria ladies, the janitors, and the grounds keepers--work tirelessly to make Hondo High a school to be proud of. .. - ji - .v 4 - . xl X X I 1 l 4 , .. .Qu- s ' -:ff X ,G AWBWX efffff X X-.W x gf jx xi ,411 eertlseluents ,X .X , ' hi , S, A li 4 N 1 jx' 1 R. f RV' Ki ,,, Aff lk,-w .V E Z Ni Q, 1 b r 7 KX! ,.!
