-I-A-nneo-.,,,.,,, V U K At f1r st 1mpress1on Hondo Hxgh School may seem to be only a wh1te brlck and Austln stone bu1ld1ng covermg 36 000 square feet of space and contammg a lab ll classrooms a homemakmg department an ag shop a band bu1ld1ng ahbrary three off1ces two faculty lounges a f1r st a1d room an annual room a conference room a m1meograph room two dressmg rooms an audxtorlum a football field a baseball dramond and basketball tenms and volleyball courts Students too seem to be only an average group of 218 boys and g1rls who use 218 lockers durmg thelr average day of h1gh school wh1ch lasts from 9 00 to 4 00 the t1me when they study four Englxshes two Span xshes three homemakxngs three ags four h1stor1es four sclences leave school at4 00 1n the1r own cars sxxty s1x of them r1de on s1x bus es whxch are ma1nta1nedfor the purpose of conveyxng the rural students home On second thought however one may be surpnsed to learn that Hondo Hlgh IS more than a stone bmldmg It 1s almost a way of 11fe It IS an opportumtyfor advancement whrch IS offered free It IS knowledge for the takmg It 18 a blg fam1ly of boys and gzrls from eleven d1fferent relxglons and almost as many raceswho are umted together under a com mon bond Hondo Hlgh School It 1s the one thousand textbooks whxch are offered to the students free the four women who f1x daxly lunches m the cafeterxa the stx men who are employed solely to ma1nta1n the beauty of the bulldlng the prlnclpal and the superlntendent who for mulate the pol1c1esof the school and the 13 teachers who supervise and mstruct the1r charges It IS the students who cheer the Hondo athletes to v1ctory on the grldlron the dxamond and the courts It IS the FFA boys and the FHA gmrls who work onprogects and degrees It 18 the band who often practlces late on cold and ratny days There's Just somethxng spec1al about thxs school It's the kmd of feelmg that makes a lump 1n your throat when you hear the school song played Perhaps you could call It school splrxt It's a wonderful hmgh school 1t's our hlgh school 1.t's Hondo H1gh School' l ' . . . . .
