'I' , f L f X J r K f XX 0 T V' A ,. 1 N 4 4 1799 X AN ACTI ITIE The Hondo High School Owl Band, under the direction of Mr, Bob Lewis, helped start the 1952- 1952 football season off with a bang by playing for the first big pep rally of the year, The band then performed at all of the games through the Regional playoffs, Two of the most out- standing half-time performances were the Bull Fight and I tau't I taw a puddy tat, The Concert season was opened by playing for the Hondo Elementary P, T,A. After this the band went to Uvalde for the Interscholastic League Marching Contest and received a first division rating for superior marching performance, The band's next activity was the lnterscholastic League Contest held in San Marcos on March Z7, 1953. There the band was awarded first division for superior concert performance and second for good sight-reading performance. In addition to these group ratings the band had twelve winners in solo competition, First division winners were Nell Nixon, Monette Schweers, Mabeth McDaniel, Au- drey Lindemann, Barbara Brucks, Connie Schweers, and Richard Morris. Second division winners were Olga Marie Reiber, Jolene Tomerlin, Herbie Faseler, and Mary Elsie Heinlein, On April 19, 1953, the band gave an outdoor concert on the plaza for the Auto and Implement Showg then it closed the concert season with the second annual spring concert in the high school Au- ditorium on May 8, 1953. On the night of May 9, l953, the first band banquet was held.
