r t 19 so Torch Class Poem (Iiorene Musick and Jo Ann Newberry) We, the members of this g ' raduating ' class, Will be forgotten as the years come and pass. But may the successors that take this tower, Never make waste of a sing-le hour. We fifty-seven seniors are the best of friends; All losses are restored and sorrows end. The Torch has been ours; we’ve held it hig-h In the past four years that have drifted by. May those that succeed us never wear a frown; But only strive for a higher crown. Marion Lee Akers is first on our list; She taught all our girls that certain twist. John Artrip is a very bashful boy; Could Nancy fill his heart With joy? When Jean Ann Baldwin walks down the street She looks for Garcel, whom she hopes to meet. Mildred Ball, from up Big A Mountain way Can be seen with Jack Smith almost any day. Don Barnhart is a pretty good guy; He never bothers us as we pass by. Mildred Boyd is a cute blond Of whom we all are very fond. Myrtle Lee Brown just joined us this year; But to us her presence is dear. Doris Call is our laziest gal; And to all she’s a true pal. Bill Counts is as little as little can be. How he stays out of the way is a mystery to me. Doris Crabtree just drives the boys wild With all of those new hair styles. Geanette Crabtree, her own business does mind; If more of us were like her, it’d be just fine. J. B. Crabtree, we must confess, Has a smile for everyone in H. H. S. Bob Deel still hunts polecats; How in the world can he stand that? Gene Dye always wears a grin Which extends from forehead to chin. Kenneth Dye is a good looking guy ; But he’ll probably end up being a spy. Lloyd Dye likes all the girls; Especially little blonds with curls. Mona Dye thinks all the boys are fine But “Pea Soup” usually leads her line. Oma Gay Dye loves to joke; And make us laugh until we choke. Peggy Dye is one we all like, But she loves only Jim Allen VanDyke. Sonny Faye Dye is a cute little chap; I guess he takes it after his pap. Howard Fletcher is tall and straight; His ambition is to be president in eighty-eight. Elmer Lee Fuller leaves all the girls alone. He probably will never own one for his own. Roberta Gent is always so funny; And never stingy with her money. Carl Henry Hart is our most handsome guy, And I’m sure I don’t have to tell you why. Jack Hess came from up Bichlands way; But he’d rather be down here any day. Bobby Hillman in basketball is good. And plays in the game just like he should. Irion Honaker is next in the line; His equal would be hard to find. James Honaker really makes us laugh With things he says in class. Jimmy Hurt is really tall. But for him. Sue Keene will fall. Hush, Betty Jackson, don’t you cry. You’ll get a “Shortt” gmy by and by. Glen Jackson is a wee bit shy; In our minds we wonder why. Lula Jackson is always chewing her gum; If she’d pass it around, we’d all have some. Nellie Jackson is one of those brunettes Who will be a success we all can bet. Peggy Jackson is so pretty and sweet; She could sweep any man off his feet. Clifford Jessee is a nice young man; He’ll get a girl for his own if he can. Jack Johnson is as lazy as can be; How he makes grades is a mystery to me. Mary Sue Johnson has many a boy fiuend, But she’s bound to get a blond in the end. Freda Lockhart is still as a mouse; You hardly know she’s in the house. Betty Martin is big and loud; You can hear her voice in any crowd. Kyle Miller is the star of the basketball team; When he makes a goal, we’re bound to scream. Wilbur Miller goes to see Nelcene each night, Say, thy must be getting along all right! Betty Jo Mustek is very good at singing; But soon she’ll make the pots and pans start ringing. Lorene Mustek always does her best; Until the work is done, she has no rest. Jo Ann Newberry is really bright, We wonder if she studies all night. Leon Owens is a lady’s man; But some old nagger he’ll land. Patty Parris is our basketball queen; Out on the court she’ll always seen. Mary K. Peck is nice and polite; We can’t see how she stays so quiet. Henry Price is really handy ’Cause with the girls he’s a dandy. Virginia Sims is short and fat; With Walter she loves to chat. Brittain Turner hums and haws When the teacher on liim calls. Mildred VanDyke is always wearing a grin; Is it Howard’s heart she’s trying to win? Kyle Wells in his classes is good; He studies like more of us should. Lloyd White is from down Finney way, I bet he leaves that place some day. Geneva Whited sure does like the boys; She plays with hearts as if they were toys. Mary Rose Wilson is always so sweet; But there’ s a saying, “Still Waters Run Deep”. When it comes to athletics, Harry Wilson leads th’ line ; But in his lessons, he’s a little behind. Joan Wyatt is cute and small; As for the boys, she loves ’em all. —20 —
