At the first of the season, the Bucks won four games in succession. Meeting Drumright on their field, Hominy came back with a score of 26-6. In a hard fought battle on the Pawhuska field, the Bucks came out on top, 19-O. In a tangle with the Bears, the home team came off the Pawnee field with a third win, 13-7. On Shidler's field, one of the hardest games was fought with Hominy coming out on top, 38-7. After one week of exciting preparation for homecoming, the Cleveland Tigers came to visit the Bucks, It was a hard fought game and was one of the top ten games of that week in Oklahoma. The Budcs with luck against them came out on the bottom, 13-12. The next two weeks on the opponents's fields, the Bucks, disgusted and unhappy, determined to stage a great come-back and rolled up a score of 33-12 at Barnsdall and a score of 26-7 at Dewey. The following three weeks brought three more victories to the Bucks: Skiatook and Fairfax were defeated on the Hominy field, LO-l3 and 12-O. The final game of the year the Bucks came off Newkirk's field with their greatest victory, Aff-6. As a final honor, the Hominy Bucks became co-champions in the District 16B and :Ln the conference with nine wins and one loss, Six boys were on All-District and one, - Jim Bob Thompson, was selected for All-State. ll. .5 .A ,, M. Because of their youth and inexperi- ence in high school competition, their defeats out-numbered their few wins. However, in judging the Bucks from the standpoint of improvement, the season was highly encourage ing for Coach Simpler and Hominy basketball fans. Only one experienced player, Jim Bob Thompson, with the aid of two other seniors, Jimmie Rudisell and Ralph Wallace, carried on for Hominy after losing nine seniors from the 1951-1952 team. At mid-term, Jim Bob Thompson completed his eligibil- ity and retired from the Buck squad with half of the sea- son remaining. Two additions to the squad were Jim Ponder, a junior, and Bob Pitts, a sophomore. The largest representation on the squad came from the sophomore class and was composed of members from the l95l-1952 championship Junior high squad. They were Oscar V9hitewing, Howard Moles, O. J. Wallace, Rex Collins, and Bob Pitts. Last, but far from least in the season's limelight, were the two ambitious and fighting freshmen, Donnie Estes and Claude Millsap. Ralph Davis, Orris Morgan, Harold Ware, Donald Sanders and Virgil Nichols completed the reserve list. The regular season was a steady, upward climb. Al- though they lost heartbreakers to such teams as Pawnee and Pawhuska, the victories gained over Cleveland, Pawhue- ka, Fairfax, and others kept the boys fighting throughout the year. Hominy will remember with pride the Buck cagers who never gave up against great odds. Mfg...-.,,..M,,wM K I Q www-W .,.,, mucus 4 4 ' x Aw-mv I 4 '-I 44? -. if ! 5 I Q anim if ? X. yr xv-wr .. They attended all the games except the one at Newkirk. ' The annual initiation was held on September 19, 1952, The twenty-five new members should be congratulated on their sportsmanship. Besides having to wear the usual costumes, they furnished the old member with her lunch. The next activity was the home-coming parade in which the Pep Club entered a float on October 10, 1952. It represented a large yellow mum. The queen and her attendants rode on this float. After the game that night the Pep Club fed the football boys a delicious dinner of fried chicken.' The sponsors, Mrs. Blackwood and Miss Hughes, helped considerably in making this a success. The final event of the football season was the Football Banquet, which was given in honor of the players, It was held at the First Christian Church on November 1, 1952, at 6:30. The Indian theme was carried out by bear programs and peace-pipe nut cups. Goal posts and autumn leaves were used for the centerpieces. The seniors received dolls with purple sweaters for favors. At the game they did a circle drill and various other maneuvers. The following week the Drum Corps again marched in a rally before the Pawnee game on the next night, September 26, 1952. A large circle was formed at this game, and two NBucksW dragged the WBearsH into the center of it. The Drum Corps next appeared in the homecoming parade the afternoon of the game with Cleveland This was on October lO, l952. That night they again appeared on the field to help the Hominy Band form a Buck head, and then they dispersed to form a figure 53, The queen, Shirley Tyler, and her attendants--Marie Lack, Elaine Morgan, and Frankie Hight-rode in the Pep Club float. The last time the Drum Corps marched was at the Skiatook game on October 31, 1952. This time a HHiH was formed and they marched from one side of the field to the other. The Drum Corps has done much to add to the gaiety and color of this year's football season. The family was trying to impress Mrs, Buffington Jones, a crude but very rich woman, in order that Claudia Cass might marry Jaspar, Mrs. Jones's son. The problems confronting the ambitious Mrs. Cass and Claudia were Sam Cass, rather half-baked in his notions of how to win friends and be a success in life. All this caused a merry time'in the Cass household. The cast, com- posed of Patty Reynolds, J. B. Hall, Shirley Gray, Harybelle Wister, Mary Dell Wilcoxson, and Clyde Steen, skillfully enacted the play. JUNIOR 'Shock of His Life' The ,junior one-act play, 'Shock of His Life , was entertaining from the first minute until the final curtain was drawn. The father, Ir. Maxwell, played by Tom Carnagey, was a very interesting person who got things all mixed up by a note. The mother, llrs. Maxwell, portrayed by Patricia Daniels, had a hard time understanding her nusband's odd actions. Her son, Wilber, enacted by J. C. Mill- burn, who started the whole mix-up, always seemed to do something to cause troubl The older daughter of the Maxwell' s, Connie, played by Charlyn Ryan, did a good job of keeping the family ear smashed. The younger daughter, Betty Lou, played by Betty McGee, also had trouble understanding her fami1y's actions. Hercules, Wilber's pal, portrayed by Larry Gatlin, was quite a show. The problems this family had and the way they overcame them was very exciting. Any one who missed y the play missed an exciting evening. The play, sponsored by Miss Dolly Hughes l and Hr. Wiley Young, kept the audience's attention all through it. v SOPHOLKJRE 'Candy Goes on a Diet The sophomore class, under the direction of Mr. Charles Lair and Hrs. Guy Miller, presented 'Candy Goes on a Diet . When a girl goes on a diet without any help from her family, there is bound to be trouble. Candy, played by Kay Cole, deciding she wants to impress her boy friend, Harry, at a beach party, goes on a diet. She persuades her friend, Maisie, portrayed by Charlsey Pillars? who agrees somewhat reluctantly, to go on the diet with her. But with Elmer, he brother, played by Bob Terrell, eating dagwood sandwiches her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton, enacted by Richard Haines and Beatrice Wister, taking this very lightly, and Cynthia Blake, a triple-threat girl, convincingly portrayed by Jackie Starks, trying to win Harry, Candy gives the diet up. The play ends with Candy winning Harry, played by Darrell Kenyon. ,, 8 T .w Row 1-Ella Jean Johnson, Pat Daniels, Alice Eldridge, Daisy Johnson, June llethvin Row 2-Miss Hughes, sponsor, Marjorie Fletcher, Bill Terrell, Charles Wilson, J. Junior Pla Cast IPS a Great life ll The Junior three-act play, It's a Great Life: was presented in the highschool auditorium on December ll, 1952. The play, which was complicated and most humorous, concerned the Wilson family. There was Mr. Wilson who was always practicing for the community play. Tommy Wilson and his pal 'Ded complicated matters by fixing up dates for Mary Wilson and dressing like a girl to date Muscles O'Rourke. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and their family were ruled by the iron hard of Hrs, W1lson's old-maid sister, Gertrude, She succeeds in breaking Mary's romance and wants to give her a substitute, who is Wilbert Wiggins, a socially backward young man. Marie George, a friend of Mary's, likes Wilbert quite a bit. Mr, Wilson scares away Miss Alstead Bill- ings, who has come to interview Mary for a job. The play ends with Hrs. Wilson and Gertrude angry at Mr. Wilson for his exhibition with Theresa Gent, the actress, Marie gets Wilbert Wiggins, Mary's romance is saved, and all is happy for them. The play cast, who skillfully presented this play, were Bill Terrell, J. C. llillburn Larry Gatlin, Marjorie Fletcher, Alice Eldridge, June ltethvin, Ella Jean Johnson, Jerry Millsap, Patricia Daniels, Daisy Johnson, and Charles Wilson. 5 1 Row l-Patti Rader, Harybelle Wister, Patty Reynolds, Annie Clark, Sara McAngus, Viola Phillips, Shirley Gray Raw 2-Llr. Senior Pla asl When I Was Green One of the outstanding dramatic events this year was a rollicking comedy, When I was Green , presented by the senior class. The play concerns the Bleacher family. Anne Bleacher rents the garage apartment to lir. and Mrs. Elliot, unaware that Mr. Elliot is vice-rpresident of a rival company of Mr. Bleacher's. To add to the Bleacher's troubles, Gatesworth, Patsy, and Beeney try to arrange a romance between Anne and Roger Martindale, not worrying about Logan's being jea- lous. Gatesworth, Patsy, and Beeney then decide to get rid of the Elliots to help their father. They devise a plan which causes the Elliots to leave in a hurry. Mr. Bleacher gets fired for offending the Illliots. Anne finds she loves Roger, and Logan is satisfied with his date with another girl. Finally everything works itself out, and the usual happy ending follows. Those who skillfully portrayed their paris were Ancil Davis, Marybelle Wister, Patty Reynolds, J. B. Hall, Sara McAngus, Nanette Garcher, Jerry Towell, John Ewing, Viola Phillips, Patti Rader, George Trumbly, Annie Clark, Ralph Wallace, and Shirley Gray.
