Along with flashes of lightening and clashes of thunder, there came a steady downpour, somewhat dampening . everyone's spirits. But all hope was not lost! No, indeed! For a forboding beginning often makes ' a successful ending. On this day some of Hominy's most outstanding children, later to become the SENIORS OF 'b5, started their school careers. The ones who began their years of toil and worry that day were: EVELYN ANDERSON, HAZEL DORNAN, ANITA JONES, DORIS LYTLE, JACQUELINE LAZELLE, LAUNIS , PASSMORE, VIRGINIA SMITH, REBECCA STANLEY, DOROTHY THROOP, EMMA LOUISE UPCHUHCH, JACK CORE, REUBEN DEROIN, FLOYD GASS, GARLAND HOM TON, BOB HOPSON, ROSS KONGABLE, LEROY SANDERS, LARRY WALSH, - ' LAWRENCE WILSON, JR., and ALICE JEAN MULLINS. Marion Brandon was among this group, too, but she was a little late in getting to school. When she finally arrived at school about 10:30 that morning all wet and muddy, we asked her what happened, and she said, H0n my way to school I fell V into a great big puddle of water, and couldn't get out until the mailman came and pulled me out.N ,After the class became accustomed to the idea of going to school, all was quiet and peaceful for a little while. However, at the end of the first semester came a great disappointment, for , Doris HMglgegtYggagPa3S?:iht well, and there was no change in the class. In the third grade the class increased in number-and intellect when REBA GOODMAN came bouncing down from Ochelata, and DOEDTH SISSON came to join us from Paxton. Everyone was glad. also. that DORIS LYTLE came back from the nLone'Star State.N lcontinued on next page! is S . 1 ,gf -re' .j1 1'fT. 54 :wifi 7 X ' y A Q CLASSDUILL ' We, the learned and supremely intellectual Senior Class of the year, One Thousand Nineteen Hundred and Forty-five, being of comparatively sound mind and memory, do hereby declare this to ' be our last will and testament, and do desire the contents herein to be disposed of in the manner cited below. Collectively--To our unworthy and inferior Junior Class we leave our customary seats in assembly. We hope, juniors, that you conform with Mr. Cox'e suggestion that you sit not farther ' back than the fifth row, or else you may suffer the consequences. To the sophomores we bequeath all the time that has been taken for senior make-up tests. That might come in handy, sophomores, some day when you are seniors. I We leave to the Freshman Class four long, hard years of English. Don't worry, though, . freshmen, you'1l live through it. - Individually-LAUNIS PASSMORE leaves her ability to attend school three days out of the week and still stay on good terms with English Literature to Charles Hendricks. JACKIE LAZELLE sorrow'- fully leaves her typing ability U1 to Jack Bunch. You may have to improve it a little, Jack. ALICE JEAN MULLINS wills her sense of humor and ability to laugh at the corniest jokes to Nelda K ore. nz MARY ESTHER WILSON wills her ability to struggle through bigwerds te Stanley Smith. BOB LACRONE wills his knowledge of agriculture, livesteek, etc. , and women to Joe Haines. You better be careful with that last one , Jee.' IIDGENE FROST leaves her interest in New Mexiee other than the cactus and tumbleweeds, te Ann Drummond. Maybe she can do a little better there, I A To Lloyd Burger is left CHERRY LEE KINCHELOE'S way of lovin' 'em and leavin' 'em. DICK POPE wills his Metcalf and Anthology with a gleeful little grin to any junior-whether he wants it or not. A ' H t PLACE - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania y A - N One dark, dreary day in January, when the snow was rapidly drifting on the sidewalks, I with the feeling of a free woman, walked out of the Goodman Journalistic School for Women, managed by that handy helper of hindering problems, REBA GOODMAN. . I had just finished my course in journalism, and I now had an opportunity to puts my knowledge to practical use. My first job was to cover an assignment for one of the leading newspapers, so I was now hastening to the office of the Hampton and Jones's Democratic Reviewz' ' Upon my arrival at the office, GARLAND told me that my assignment would take me to China, and I was to leave immediately. I rushed out to the roof where I had parked my heliccopter and took' off. ' ' After about an hour's travel, I reached my destination and proceeded to the Abbott-Costello Hotel. Later I learned that the hotel was owned by BUD DORNAN and LOU STANLEY, two of my fomer classmates. Meeting these old friends, I stopped to chat a moment and to learn the latest gossip, which was all about the robbipof MAHTINA FOSTER BRECKINRIDGE, the famous mevle star. Through inquigy Idaleo learned that her husband, ALVIE, was managing her Hollywood plantation while she was a rea . The next morning I set out for the American Embassy to get aid from the new ambassador in securing a pass to the Imperial Palace. Imagine my surprise to find the new ambassador was REUBEN DEROIN, and even more surprised was I to find that his secretary was BETSY ROSS WALKER. Reuben told me that he had visited my old home town a short while before .coming abroad. His mentioning the word Hominy brought many pleasant memories to my mind. . A During the course of our conversation, Reuben told me about many of our former classmates. The big three'--HOPSON, LONG, and GASS were football coaches at West Point. These three and their little pigeons--Cara Lee, DOT, and roos ng house apartmentsin New York. 'I secured my pass and set out e Imperial Palace, As this interv the Generalissimo completed my assignment, I urned to my hotel and made preparations to leave erica the next day. ,Early the nextxm ing, I reluctantly bade good-bye 'to Bud and Lou and started for rica. I reached Philadelph a out 10 A. M. and went :Immediately to ,check in at the office. ANITA old me that as soon as ad t ed my story, I might take a few days' vacation, so I decided to spe these days in H . Upon my ar val there, I went to the school house to see if any of my former teachers were till around. Imag e my surpris to find that LARRY WALSH was still trying to,fi.nish English Lite:-at re. I talked wit him a moment d took the elevator to the eighth floor where I found the Home Economics tea her to be CHERR LEE KINCHELOE. I stopped in to visit her, and she told me all the latest news. e said that sh had seen PATRICIA PIERCE TINSLEY, who was here on a visit, and alsp that EVELYN and Wayne were liv about five miles north of town on a farm. E While I was talking to Cher Lee, Evelyn brought in her daily quota of eggs with which she Q supplied the Home Ee Department. Since she invited me to have lunch with her. we set out 'for the 2 farm. After a very delightful l ch, prepared by the Ingersoll's maid, VIRGINIA SMITH, Evelyn . and I returned to town to do some shopping. I found that the town had ch aa immensely sinch I had been gone. On the corner of Fifth Avenue and Hain, we were stopped y-a policeman. Much to my surprise I found the handsome man in uniform to be DICK POPE. Since e was busy directing traffic, we just exchanged hello's and drove on. After our shopping expedit n, 'Evelyn and I parted and I wentback to the hotel to rest. Later that afternoon I attended a lee ure on The Rights of Women, delivered by that distlnqui hed lecturer of the day, FRANCES BLACK. At the lecture I ran into ROTHY THROOP and,EMMA LOUISE UPCHURCH, those lnseparables from their high school days. They had g ne to California after graduation, married twins, and were now back in Hominy living in a duplex We made plans to attend the opera that evening at the Passmore ' Theater, owned by IIADAMOSE J' LAUNIS PASSMORE. ' The singing star of the' evening was ALICIA JEANNE MULLINS, accompanied by one of the season's outstanding maestro's, CASANOVA ITURBI KONGABLE. After a most enjoyable evening, we decided to call it 8 we A QV' , While strolling along Osage Avenue on our .way to the McGillicuddys, which by the way was the surname of Emma Louise and Dorothy since their marriage, we came face to face with IMOGENE FROST and DOROTHY SISSON. The girls were worn and frazzled from a hard day of hat checking at the Brown Derby. The Brown Derby, which specialized in corn beef and cabbage, was owned and operated by MARY ESTHER WILSON. It was suggested that all of us go there for a midnight snack. Feeling faint from hunger. I hurriedly agreed. o At the door we were met by the head waiter, BOB LACRONE, who escorted us to our table. While we were waiting for our orders, the curtain rose for the floor show. I was never so surprised in 'all -mv life when WAYNE GARRETT ducked out from the behind the curtain to announce. the first number. We' were delighted to hear the strains of that immortal song, 'Turkey in the -Straw, play by that ' forever famous waltz king, LAWRENCE WILSON. The feature attraction of the evening was a song by the Kings' Women, WANDA DAVIS and BETTY LOU WILLOOX. The BUCKS played Cushing at Hominy for their first game. Floyd Gass completed three touchdown passes to Bill Long and final score was Hominy 33-Cushing-6. Next week saw the BUCKS enter- taining the Pawhuska Huskies on home ground, again Pawhuska was a little green and the BUCKS won 21-0. Pawnee's unknown team journeyed to Hominy the following Friday to be beaten 57-O. Pawnee was game, but they just didn't have it. The following Friday proved to be near catas- trophe for the BUCKS. The boys took a fine record to P-E-R-R-Y and played a very good ball game With the help of Newhouses's interception of s pass, the Bucks led at the halftime, lk-12. I But the big boys from Perry just wore the BUCKS down. They came back in the second half to win 32-lb. lAlasD. This game crippled about five of the regulars, but all the injuries were not -due to rough play. Nearly evey player received severe LIME BURNS. Because of the playoffs, we had to change our regular Thanksgiving game with Cleveland. The boys went to Cleveland, and after a close first half, they won easily 37-O. The next week Hominy gent to the big city and played Tulsa Will Rogers at Skelly Stadium in Tulsa. We still were carrying our lime burns, but played them a good game. Tulsa won A1-19. Then the Dewey Bulldogs came to Hominy very keyed up for us. They beat us 31-7. Dewey had a mighty nice team. Then after a week of needed rest, the BUCKS went to Oilton figuring on a cinch. Well, the first half was scoreless, but the second half was a little better. We managed five touchdowns to win the game 3h-0. In this game, Walsh, our center, intercepted a pass. It was a red letter day in his life. Our final gane was with Yale. This was the first Hominy-Yale game in a very long time. Yale was a very tough opponent but not too much for the BUCKS. Newhouse intercepted a pass and ran ninety yards for s touchdown, and the longest run of the SGBBOD. The HOMINY BUCKS ended their season with a 25-12 victory. The BUCKS finished second in their district, 12 B. We won 6 games and lost 3 during the l9hL season, scoring 2L7 points to our opponents 122. l Y ' lf, BASKETBALL ,te 5 la, x ax G -rj Qs , my .,, i' 5 9' , Y 4 REVIEW OF BASKETBALL SEASON p To many Hominy fans and students, this season was one of the BUCK'S greatest basketball seasons. Starting with five players back from last season and with many fine sdbs, the BUCKS proved to be very strong. Beginning the season very powerfully, the BUCKS won over such teams as Pawhuska, Cleveland, Dewey, Yale, Pawnee, Ralston, Cascia Hall, Oilton, Wynona, and Ramona. ,Entering their first tournament, the BUCKS went to the Bristow invitational. Playing against A'Class schools, they won the tournament by defeating Stillwater and Drumright, two of the State's top teams. The next tournament for the BUCKS was the county. They won this one rather easily 'by beating Pawhuska in the finals. The BUCKS started on the last lap of the season by winning the district and regional tournies gaining the right to go to the state tournament at Oklahoma 'City as a B Class school. ' - Here the BUCKS met some very stiff opposition but managed to survive by beating Beggs the first round in an overtime period. The next game was the semi-finals in which this same team was beaten out the year before by two points. The detennined BUCKS came through in fine shape beating Blair by one point. The finals which determined the State Champions was a very tough game for the BUCKS, but their never-dying determination gained them the honor of State HBH Class Champions by defeating Bethany in an overtime period by 2 points. The BUCKS won the North-state conference with ten winnings and no losses. All together, the BUCKS won 35 games and lost none remaining the only undefeated team in the State. In addition to this they defeated four undef feated teams who were Drumright, Blair, Hillsdale, and Ramona., Due credit goes to B111 Long, all- state center both last season and this season, along with Bob Hopson, Floyd Gass, Lero tsanders, Wayne Garrett, Stanley Shunkamolah, James Frazier, Myron Koshiway, George Williams, Kenneth Parks, Reuben DeRoin, Otis Oberly, Jack Core, Jack Bunch, Dick Zimmerman, and Gerald Burris. And last B but not least by any means, much credit goes to Coach Burris, who spent many hours with the BUCKS in preparing them for their most successful season. Very early the next morning, I was awakened by the ringing of my phone. I picked up the receiver and heard the desk clerk say that there were two young ladies waiting,in the lobby to see me, so I told him to send them up immediately. Guess whom I saw when I opened the door--BARBARA LAWMASTER and JACKIE LAZELLE. I learned later that the girl' were mployed on t e pitching staff of the Naval Cadets Baseball Team-pitching woo to keep up the sa1lor's morale. Entering the lobby, I spied MARY HIGHT just coming to work. She told me she was employed as the day clerk, and I asked her to call a taxi for me. A few minutes later my taxi arrived, and the driver was none other than that famous wolfe in sheep's clothing, LEROI SANDERS. On the way to the depot we renewed our old acquaintance. After arriving at the depot, I recalled that I had learned of all my classmates except JACK CORE, and I wondered what had become of him. At this very moment the train pulled into the station and down stepped the conductor, who, I was delighted to see, was JACK CORE. Picking up my bag, I boarded the train. Ae I sank into the comfortable seat of the Luxury Liner, I felt quite drowsy and worn out but very happy to learn that all the graduating class of 'LS had made a success of their lives. 1 , Reba Goodman Marion Brandon CLASS HISTORY QCOnt.l The sixth grade was an exciting experience to our class, because we were newly located in Junior High. We were being taught how to act like little ladies and gentlemen, but with little success. We were proud of the fact that we were the noisiest class in the building. That year IMOGENE FROST, a perfect little lady, came to our class from Muskogee and was a bit startled when, she saw us sliding down the banisters. . In the seventh grade JACKIE LAZELLE moved to Shawnee, but came back in about four months because she simply couldn't stay away from Hominy. The remainder of the year very little excite- ment took place and everything was as calm as could be expected. The eighth grade found everyone getting excited over the ideaiof starting to High School the next year, although I can't imagine why we liked the idea. Everyone was pondering over the question of the easiest subjects that could be taken the freshman year and whether we were going to like the teachers. . - QContinued on page 63j .,- 4 .v v 'TEX' 4 ff - 'rewf 'V H 5 L , . GEORGIA ELLEN SHOP Mr. do Mrs. Dean Herod CONGRATULATIONS, SENIGRS, FOR A SUCCESSFUL TWELVE YEARS OF SCHOOLING Ruth Kongable CONGRATULATIONS 10 THE SENIOR CLASS OF U45 . Oklahoma City, Okla. Rey H. Noel, SEH00 COLOR PRESS - L cuss x-11s'1-osx Cooney - Ab last the great day came when we were allowed to enter the halls of H. H. S. without having someone look down his nose and say Wsll! What are you doing ever here? When someone heard an unusual commotion in the hall, he looked to see who was causing the disturbance, and then dismissed the thought with Oh, well-it's just freshmen. We wondered why we were seated in the back seats- of assembly. We thought that since we were freshmen we should be seated down in front and the A seniors in the back. There were several additions to the class in our freshman year. FRANCES ANN BLACK came flipping down from Kansas to find I-leminy's school mueh harder than she had imagined. WANDA DAVI8, with that bright smile of hers came over from Middle Enterprise. IIJROTHY NELL HINKEL ran ever from Stillwater to learn the latest gossip. Also ALVIE BRE E emo in from pn,-gon' p and MARY RIGHT, ANNA JEAN STREETMAN, and BETTY LOU WILLCOX joined us from Sunset. Our sophomore year we were very quiet and reserved. We had finally learned that the purpose of the study hall was for stuw, and we were no longer afraid to walk up to the pencil sharpener to sharpen our pencils. CHERRY LEE KINCHELOE came here from Fairfax and taught us something that p she had mastered long ago--the art of having all of her lessons in on time. When our junior year approached, our importance increased considerably, 'and along with our A rising dignity cams DICK POPE, who fitted in very nicely with this atmosphere. Finally came our senior year-the year we had looked forward to for so very long. In our senior year WAYNE GARRETT, that whiz at bookkeeping, and BARBARA LAWHASTER, who had sailors on her mind, were the latest additions. Also BETSY WALKER Joined us in the second semester. At last we were superior. We could then criticize the juniors, tease the sophomores, and look down upon the freshmen, just as we had been treated for the past three years. But don't think that being a senior was all fun! It was certainly no bed of roses, for before we could receive that long-awaited recognition at commencement, we must first work extra hard that last year--and to get an idea of what I mean, just ask any senior that took English Literature. Yes, twelve long years of strife and struggle, learning as little as possible but still getting by, we come to the end of .our high school days. Truly, we are tired seniors! nie. .ms mmf N IITHUERAPHED EY SIIG! COLD! PRI!! , ' 1 OKLAHOMA CIW an .
