Classy Chaperones f we were to throw a party with silver balloons and all, right at this moment, many students and maybe even a few faculty would probably freeze and question the purpose of this party. Busy with loads of homework and thousands of tests, many students are not even aware of the history of this school. But, there would be a few teachers present that would go on partying because they'd know that this was the celebra- tion of Homestead's 25th birthday. During this gala event, teachers would be able to tell their stories and experiences while teaching here. They would describe the dif- ferent changes that have occurred over the years. These changes have included higher goals for students. Recently, students have tried harder to be more successful. Getting high SAT scores and being accepted to their most preferred college are only two of the many aims that have kept students studying hard. A stronger bond between the teacher and student has formed through programs such as DAWN. All of these changes have made Homestead the great school that it is today. So let's toast to our academic achievements.

The wide variety of voca- tional classes has increased greatly over the last few years. Vocational classes include such classes as drafting, auto shop, art, and cooking. Offering these classes gives students the opportunity some practical skills that might be useful to them in their future. Taking these classes allows many students to get a head start , , W..-f..ffa ' Ant' .- -5 . f, A ,,,..gL, in their lives. Not only do vocational classes provide students the chance to sharpen their skills for the future purposes, but they also give students a chance to have fun. Whether it be painting a picture or baking a cake, students learn to feel proud of their work and appreciate it. Some students claim that they take such classes as Driver's Ed. and Interior Design just because it is an easy class. But, most will admit that the class they take is helpful and useful and not just a class to get an A in. Vocational courses also make up a ' 1 . l 1 'W' ...mmf ' ,ig majority of the elective classes offered. Its popularity is probably increased due to the fact that taking an elective class is a requirement of many colleges today. Vocational classes basically senfe two purposes. One is to provide the opportunity for students to learn a special skill that will perhaps helptheircareer. The second purpose is to allow students to have a little fun at school.
