Practice Makes Perfect Think back to the last football game you went to. What do you remember? The game? The cheerleaders? Or was it the certain activity you had planned after the game? Whatever the case. spirit teams were there to try to draw your atten- tion tothe game. Learning how to psych up the crowd takes many hours of hard practice. The song girls know about many hours of hard practice. Not only do they spend a lot of time learning cheers, they also have to learn routines to perform for the rallies. Keeping in synch during the halftime show takes the flag team hours of practice. Can you imagine the embarrassment of dropping a flag or losing your place in the middle of a routine? Clad in black hooves and green fur, the mascots must endure long practice sessions in order to learn the cheers they must perform dur- ing the game. While no one can identify them in the costume, it can still be ego shattering if they mess up a cheer. So while these spirit leaders may seem to have it all so easy, you can see that it takes more than iust a pretty face.
