CHOIR Homestead was justly proud of a dedicated choral department this year. The fifty-member ,fl Uapprlla 67!mir brightened the Yuletide Sea- son with their performance to a full house at our Christmas concert, The Sounds of Christ- mas, and by caroling around the campus. The Girls filer, primarily a training chorus, added much to the evening. For the mid-year Pops Concert the choir entertained with selections from the Broadway musical PORGY AND BESS, joined by the Girls Glee singing numbers from FLOWER DRUM SONG. For the annual Spring Concert, A Choir and the Concert Band combined in a highly success- ful program. Piano accompanists this year were Carol Freed CChoirD and Pam Hill CGleeD. Perhaps their most significant concert this year was the All-District Music Festival. Or- ganized by Homestead's choir director, Mr. John Pleasant, and conducted by Mr. Royal Stanton, head of the Fine Arts Department of DeAnza College, The A Choirs of all five district high schools combined in an outstand- ing performance of such works as Felices ter and ioined the District Orchestra, con- ducted by Mr. John Mortarotti, head of the Fine Arts Department of Foothill College, in Handel's Te Deum Laudamus . Late in the year, the choir was invited to participate in the Campbell Invitational Choir Consortium, conducted by internationally acclaimed chor- al director Jester Hairston.

THE DIARY GF ANNE FRANK In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart. The words of the Diary afflmzf Yrank came to life on the auditorium stage as Homestead thespians pre- sented the annual fall play. The sensitive drama is a tribute to the eight Jews cramped in an attic for two years in a vain effort to escape the Gestapo. The dilligent effort of the cast and crew reflected the outstanding quality of the production. The sincerity, wit, and compassion of all the performers contributed to the effective impact of the play. Especially appreciated by the audience was the realistic scenery of the annex. The stage crew spent long hours preparing and painting to create the war-time Germany atmosphere. Equal to the stage performance was the energy and enthu- siasm of many behind the scenes students without whom Ure Diary of ,lime gfdllf could not have been produced. M I CAST OF PLAYERS Anne .... A new organization this year, the Girls Ensemble highlighted the concert with their presentation of Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols . Continuing a choral tradition initiated last year, the Chamber Singers again performed a series of Alfred Burt carols. Both ensembles represented Homestead in a traveling capacity, entertaining for the Palo Alto Women's Club at the Cabana Hotel, at the Portola Presbyterian Church, and at the annual Yuletide Festival at Villa Montalvo, where the Chamber Singers were joined by alumni of the group.
