Don Mack Tony Talbott Bob Sorvaag KEY CLUB To develop initiative and leadership, to provide experience in living and working together, to serve the school and community. to prepare for useful citizenship, and to encourage higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and social contacts are the purposes and goals of Homestead's Key Club. The twenty-nine energetic young men of Key Club have made significant contributions both to Homestead and our community. The well known information booth in the quad is the handiwork of Key Club craftsmen. Weekly vehicle checks were conducted by the club in the student parking lot. ln addi- tion, Key Club sold football programs, bought, delivered, and decorated the tree for the Christmas Ball, donated S ISO to CARE for an overseas school, and helped the Al- thenians give a Mexican-American Christ- mas Party. Springtime brought the annual Parent-Son Banquet, and the traditional Sweetheart Banquet. Slave labor, provided by Key Club members, was sold on Slave Day. This is the philosophy of the twenty members of Althenians, Homestead's girls' honor and service organization. Scholarship, leadership, school and community activities, and attitude qualify a girl for membership, Regard for and devotion to others has come to mean a variety of things for the energetic Althenians. The Annual Service Clubs Banquet was sponsored by the Althenians to bring together the four service clubs on campus. As a result of this get-together. the Althenians were given the cooperation of Key Club and Interact for the Mexican-American Christmas Party. The Job Skill Training Center, site ofthe event, was decorated and prepared for the four hundred underpriviledged children of the migrant workers. Lunch and wrapped Christmas gifts were presented to the guests. Traditionally. the Althenians are in charge of ticket sales and ushering of all school productions, serving at senior activities and Parent Faculty meetings. ln addition, monthly visits were made by the Althenians to San .lose Hospital, where the members entertained the patients. Many Althenians also patterned a brain damaged little girl, Heading the fall projects was President Pat Jones, Secretary Rose Marie Menager, Treasurer Donna Hofele. and Historian Janis Coblentz. Spring activities were under the direction of President Donna Hofele. This year, mem- bers conducted proiects at the school, community, and international levels. The fourth Annual Benefit Hootenanny was staged September 22 by Interact. Groups from Foothill, San .lose State. and Homestead's own Mr. Lew White entertained at the hand-clapping event. Interact also staged the first known tricycle race on Homestead's campus. Seventeen clubs competed for first prize, with all proceeds going to the March of Dimes. The Yule season found Interact members assisting the El Camino Hospital Auxiliary at their Candle Show, and aiding the Althenians in the decoration and supervision of a Christmas Party. The cIub's influence was felt around the globe. Interact members financially adopted a young Korean girl. Yun Ok, through the Save the Children Foundation. Interact also contributed to the founda- tion of a school through CARE in the Philippines.
