WQRKING EGR LIS A D ITH Ll 7 ,t Mr. Yamamoto Special Education, Emerging Nations The Special Education Class taught by Mr. Yamamoto allowed remedial stu- dents to progress at a less accelerated rate than in other track classes at Homestead. The students were encour- aged to develop a role in the commu- nity and take responsibilities. The counselors tried to direct students toward courses and activities of interest and value to them. One of the projects of the counseling department this year was to present informa- tion related to each individual class at a separate parent- faculty meeting. ln this way, they were able to be much more specific in discussing each respective class. While the under-class counselors concerned themselves primar- ily with counseling students in choosing courses for college and subsequent jobs, the up- per-class counselors began discussing college and job op- portunities with the students. Mr. Rehor Counselor The State requirements class is an extension of the previous six-week driver-training course. There are now units on narcotics, alcohol, first-aid and fire prevention. 162 M ', ' J f .W ki' Miss Olsen Counselor
