Under the leadership of Coach Lawrence Larry Sullivan, former Duquesne University star player and Derry I ownship Coach. I lomestead broke a streak of twenty- three games without a victory to its credit. I his was Coach “Larry’’ Sullivan's first year at I lomestead and it was I lome- stead s lirst successful year for a long time. The C o Id and Bl ue marched through the first three games without a defeat or being scored upon, hut meeting stiffer opposition we lost the next four games. I he Homestead-Munhall game at- tracted most of our interest. Munhall was favored to heat I lomestead before the game started. The first half was (ought in Munhall territory without either team scoring. The third quarter Homestead held a slight edge with Rager scoring a Safety making the score Homestead 2. Munhall 0. Homestead hit pav-dirl the fourth quarter with Stafura scoring on a long run followed by another score by Sloviak. Chuba missed both extra points. Due to the loss of players because of evacuation of Lower Homestead and in- juries. Miller had to mould a new team. The players lost were Onfrey. Churilla. Evanugo. Esachenko. Fernandes. I he Gold and Blue marched through the preliminary games to the Section with flying colors and started the Section with a loss to Munhall. Homestead went through the rest of the games without a defeat until the last game when they traveled to Duquesne and suffered a loss. IQ to 10. The last defeat caused a three way tie which necessitated another game in order to decide the champion of Section VI. In a playoff at the Stadium. Munhall came out on top. after defeating Duquesne. but not until after a gallant light by the Steelers.
