The market places are the Chile an equivilants to our supermarkets. Items ranging from to chickens can be purchased there, and neighbors and friends come to chat as well as to buy. Student strikes are quite common in Chile. These students are marching around the main plaza in Temuco. The building in the back- ground is a movie theater. This last summer I was an AFS'er in Temuco, Chile, and it was the most valuable experience of my life. Names on a map are now actual places to me: stores, school, chuches, parks, and most important--people. My Chilean family, the Figueroas, helped me obtain a good cross- sectional view of the country. They proved to me that the basic ingredient of family love was the same 6000 miles from my own home. My sisters Eliana, Gisela, and I traveled to various other cities. This is in a park in Concepcion, the second largest city in Chile. 80

Sometimes I wonder how people of different races, religions, and customs can live in peace and harmony. Somehow, they manage to do it in Malaysia. It is not surprising then, to find a great number of intermarriages in our country. I, myself, am a product of an intermarriage. My mother is an Arab whereas my father is a Sumatran. There are seven other children be- side me. We live at 1435, Jalan Abdul Rah- man Andak, johore, Bahru, johore, Malaysia. Come and visit me sometime!
