H H ' 4 ................ . .4 H 'I - - - MG and MY Sl15dC V ----'-'-- 3 Girls'Union Officer ......... ...... 3 U N ---- '- I ' -- '-'-- 2 ff ..,.............. 3,4 ' I ----------- 1,2 A ................ 3 f - ---'--- 3 ' ................... . . .2 ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' 21314 ' 4 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3,4 --------'---1f2f3f4 ' ' ................ 3 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .2 ' ...... ............ 1 ' ..................... 1 .................. 3,4 1 Semor Class HISl0I'Y The Sen1or Class of 1956 entered the doors O1 Homer Un1on H1gh School as Freshmen on September 2 1952 They numbered twelve 1n all flVe from Mountvllle and seven from R1nggold They got busy and elected the fo1low1ng class off1cers Pres1dent MarJorie Ames VICE Pres1dent Sandra Chappelear Secretary Treasurer Sandra Mclnturf and News Reporter Sara Ell1ott Dur1ng the1r Freshman year they ga1ned two students Roger Morgan and Raymond Pauley In January 1953 they were glven the opportunlty to l1sten to the Inaugurat1on of Pres1dent Elsenhower It was dur1ng the1r Freshman year that the bond 1ssue was passed for a new gymnas1um and aud1tor1um W1th the help of the1r adv1sor Paul Bankes they presented a Chr1stmas play and a Chr1stmas program They also took part 1n the Var1ety Show MarJor1e Ames was awarded the SCl1OlaI'Sl'1lD Medal and B111 Foughty was the w1nner of the ACTIVITIES Medal In the fall of 1953 the class returned as Sophomores They had lost four students The ten rema1n1ng students pushed forward and elected the followmg class off1cers Pres1 dent Sandra Mclnturf VICE Pres1dent Carolyn Klttle Secretary Treasurer B111 Foughty News Reporter Donna Nolan Mr Charles K Sharp the1r adv1sor d1rected them 1n pre ent1ng a play Chr1stmas for the Duchess to enterta1n the student body at Chr1stmas t1me Homer Un1on f1nally had the1r new gym and aud1tor1um Pennsv1l1e was the f1rst team to play on the new floor The date was February 5 1954 That year Sara Ell1ott and Donna Nolan t1ed for h1gh honors and they both rece1ved a Scholarsh1p Medal B111 Foughty was aga1n rec1p1ent of the Act1v1t1es Medal When they returned as Iumors they had lost one student The1r class had decreased from fourteen to n1ne members The class off1cers were Pres1dent Sara Ell1ott V1ce Pres1dent Roger Morgan Secretary Treasurer Sandra Chappelear News Reporter Donna Nolan The1r adv1sor was Mrs Ella Harr1son On October 20 they had the1r p1ctures taken at Lamborn's In November the class r1ngs were ordered but they dec1ded to Walt unt1l the1r Sen1or year to recelve them On December 17 the Iun1ors presented a three act comedy Me and My Shadow Popcorn and hot dogs were sold at the basket ball games to 1ncrease the1r class treasury The Iun1ors were very proud of Raymond Pauley who was chosen to be on the All Morgan County Basketball Team Sandra Chappelear rece1ved both the Scholarsh1p Medal and the Act1v1t1es Medal that year The t1me had fmally arr1ved On September 6 1955 the group of k1ds that had started to school eleven years before were f1na11y Sen1ors The class had lost one student dur 1ng the summer and now cons1sted of e1ght member Homer Un1on had a new Pr1nc1pal Paul Bankes had res1gned and had been replaced by Roy Byers The1r class offlcers were Pres1dent Don Drake VlCG Pres1dent Sandra Mclnturf Secretary Treasurer Donna Nolan News Reporter Sara Ell1ott Mrs Ella Harr1son was aga1n chosen for class adv1sor The class chose to sell hot dogs and popcorn at the basketball games They rece1ved the1r class rlngs from Herff Iones dur1ng the second week of school In November they chose the1r 1nv1tat1ons had the1r Sen1or p1ctures taken at Lamborn s and had a hayr1de and wlener roast w1th the Sophomores In December the Sen1ors lllltlated the Freshmen Everyone 1nclud1ng the Freshmen had barrels of fun As IS the custom the Sen1ors decorated the Chr1stmas tree and gave out the g1fts at Chr1stmas t1me At the end of the f1rst semester they lost one student The Sen1or class now cons1sted of seven members Just half the num ber that started as Freshmen The Annual a Sen1or proJect was started 1n Ianuary Measurlng for caps and gowns was another task of the bemors Durlng the month of February 0 s . ,5 - . . 1 1 1 1 ' -- 1 . J' Class Prophecy The even1ng chores are f1n1shed and oh the w1nd 1S howl1ng and 1t s very cold outs1de Guess I ll put another DICCQ of f1rewood on the grate ard pull up my easy chalr It s gett1ng warm 1n here and my eyes get heav1er and heav1er unt1l I seem to be on Journey I am supposedly travel1ng 1n the northern part of Oh1o when I suddenly come upon a beaut1ful farm home I slow down my car and whose name can you 1mag1ne 15 on the ma1l box None other than that of Don Drake I drove 1n and was met by Don and we really had a n1ce v1s1t talk1ng about our t1mes at Homer Un1on and h1s graduat1ng class of 1956 I was ready to leave when he asked me to come and l1sten to a program on the radlo He turned on the rad1o and whose vo1ce do you th1nk I heard that of Sara Ell1ott She has her own program on WLW and do1ng very well for herself I told h1m I had to be on my way I flnd myself 1n Columbus and walk1ng 1n front of a dress shop when someone calls my name and there lS Sandra Mclnturf She 15 a dress des1gner and a model for a large store I asked her about Sandra Chappelear and she sa1d Sandra was teach1ng 1n a Cleve1and school I always felt that she would be a teacher I went on down the street and ran r1ght 1nto a heavy set man I thought that he would surely h1t me but when I looked 1nto h1s face lt was none other than Roger Morgan We heart1ly greeted one another and he told me he was an accountant for a Columbus f1rm and that he had marr1ed an undergraduate from Homer UNION W1ll1am H Foughty Attorney at Law I walked 1nto a r1chly furn1shed su1te of rooms The GXDFQSSIOH on B111 s face was that of surpr1 e I always felt he d make a good lawyer because of the way he could argue at Homer Un1on On my way home I dec1ded to stop at Lancaster for lunch I found a restaurant w1th a slgn Donna's Home Cooked Foods I entered and who do you th1nk I saw Donna Nolan I th1nk the members of the class of 1956 have done very well for themselves and hope they cont1nue to do so I suddenly awake from my nap and Whlle I watched the fue d1e down I let my m1nd wander Homer Un1on way and enJoy the fr1endsh1ps I had Just renewed Roger Morgan Ctrymg to 1mpress the crowdj flashed a dollar b1l1 and Sald Th1S b11l says that not one of you green horns can say the Lord s Prayer B1lly Foughty Jumped up q 1 k ly matched the dollar b1ll took off h1s cap, bowed h1s head and sald Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep You w1n 1nterrupted Roger g1v1ng B1lly the dollar I d1dn't th1nk you knew 1tl . . . -- . . . . , . I.T. Vlckroy, Gary Cooley, Roger Kasler, Ilm Duncan, Ronald Sands, and Rodney Plerce played on the Iunlor Hlgh basketball team. Emerla Van Horn was one of the cheer leaders ' In the Freshman year Ilm Duncan was the wlnner of the Actlvrtles Medal and Davld Jones won the Scholarshlp Medal. They started the Sophomore year wlth the same students and garned Dalton Mllls 1n December whlch made a total of flfteen. They elected officers as follows I.T. The officers were: Florence Pierce, Presidentg Sheila Ray, Vice-President, Linda McLain, Secretary, Iune McElfresh, Treasurerg Patti Norman, Historian, and Emeria Van Horn, Recreation leader. The Chesterhill chapter installed the officers . The chapter members attended the county meetings at McConnelsville, Stockport, Pennsville, and Chesterhill. At the latter meeting the Homer- Union chapter helped with the program and refreshments. Christmas time, a donation of money was made to help Home Economics schools in Korea. Iunior degrees were awarded to all nine members . In the fall of 1955, there were nineteen members. The officers were: Linda Smith, Presidentg Emeria Van Horn, Vice-Presidentg Carla lnarvey, Secretary, Rosemary Hambel, Treasurer, Ioyce Barton, Historian, and Sharon Vickroy, Re- creation leader. Mrs . Ella Harrison has been the F .H.A. advisor for the last two years. Mrs. Virgene Ray was the club mother the first year, and she, and Mrs. Mildred Vickroy are the club mothers this year. They attended parties at Pennsville, Stockport, McConnelsville, and Chesterhill. The Homer-Union chapter held the Christmas party. Each girl brought a present for a less fortunate child in the county. Eleven girls, the advisor, and Mrs . Vickroy attended the District Rally in Bamesville. Sheila Ray is the county News Reporter.
