“SENIOR: Distinguished from a Junior; of higher rank or position, especially after long service.”’ Every Mariner looked forward to his Senior year and the privileges that went along with it. Being a Senior meant being able to go off campus for lunch and eat in the Senior cafeteria. Despite these privileges, most Seniors came down with a condition after first semester known as “Senioritis.” “Senioritis” was usually caused by overexertion during exam time, too many assignments due, and thoughts of the warm weather and sunny beaches. Symptoms included endless gazing out of classroom win- dows, dozing off during lectures, in- ability to complete assignments, and, most of all, terminal procrastination. There was only one sure-fire cure for this condition... Preparing the ring and other decorations was a big task for the Ring Dance Committee who began preparing for the dance in October. Juniors sold magazines to help raise money for the D.J. from KS 96 and decorations to match their theme “Up Where We Belong.” Rings were ordered from Josten’s Ring Co. and were tried on Friday before the dance. Juniors were up early the day of the dance to finish putting up decorations. Kerstin Porter announced each couple coming through the ring as they exchanged rings and kisses. Ad- miring each other’s rings, the Juniors continued to dance to the music pro- vided by KS 96. ¢ Juniors Stacey Hall, Troy Chinen and Ken Ashley get down to the beat of ‘““Burning down the House!” ASteve Judd prepares to place Jenny Decker’s ring on her finger as they stand under the tradi- tional ring.
