10 “Fast Times at Ferguson High” Surface During Spirit Week A Lynn Harlowe and Michelle Moskowitz display their ingenuity on Halloween Day. Sophomore Stephanie Gann goes all out by wearing blue makeup on Blue and White Day. Chris Spirit Week wo A Quesenberry adds finishing touches to the crab in the senior class hall. New days, new outfits and new people gave Spirit Week a fresh look this year. On Tacky Day, Mariners wore ragged and non-matching clothes. Tourist Day found students carrying cameras and binoculars while dressed in “island” attire. On Hippie Day, bandanas, wild print shirts, bell-bottoms and peace signs were common sights. The most celebrated days, Halloween Costume NNW € ee Day and Blue and White Day, ended the week with Mariners, including faculty members, dressing up as clowns, witches, mice and vam pires on Thursday and donning all their blue and white clothes on Friday. A frenzied pep rally behind the gym ended the school week and an unfor- tunate loss to Hampton on Saturday completed activities for Spirit Week, 1983.

Many new trends were seen throughout Ferguson this year. New Wave or “punk” fashions were major trends consisting of a variety of ac- -cessories. Vans, wild, flashy earrings, punk glasses and haircuts were a common sight in the halls. Surf wear remained a steady, yet popular trend. Wave Riding Vehicles, OP, and Town - — mm meme PeP eee eee ee eee eee ee ee le and Country shirts, pants, and decals were worn by many Mariners. Glasses on a “leash” were hung around necks, while others were worn on heads. Lockers were plastered with pictures of surfers, models, favorite pastimes, and groups such as The Police, Prince, Duran Duran, David Bowie, and Micheal Jackson. ey glasses.
