Juniors Find Rings and Kisses Awaiting Them at Traditional Dance Snowflakes. glistened above the “heads of dancing couples at the Jun- iors’ December 8 Ring Dance. Winter murals covering one side of the cafete- ria were the result of hours of prepara- tion which ended the morning of the dance in a decorating marathon which began before most juniors were usu- ally awake. The theme, committees and band were voted on during their early morning class meetings. To complete the theme, “‘If a Picture Paints a Thousand Words, Then Why Can't | Paint You?’’ Sherri Kolensky painted a symbolic portrait in oils of a . girl looking into a shaded picture. Streamers and mistletoe were also hung from the ceilings and tables were decorated with candles and ever- greens. The exchange of class rings and kisses took place under the traditional ring which was trimmed with tiny white Christmas lights. Doug Cantu and Blaine Johnson, who was on crutches at the time, announced each couple coming through. After everyone was finished going through the ring, Jun- iors posed for their pictures, stared at their hands in amazement, ran to their friends to “turn their rings’’ and then continued to dance the night away.
