C I-IIGHLUND Supenntendent SUPERIN'I'ENDENT'S MESSAGE Four hundred years before the Christian era, Pericles, the noblest of Athemans addressed his counn'y men thus: Fix your eyes upon the greatness of your coxmtry and remember that her greamess was won by men of coinage, wxth knowledge of their duty, and with a sense of honor rn action, The pressures and dilemmas of this H Bomb age have forced the American people to fix their eyes upon defense and survival, rather than upon progress, and the greatness of the American spxrit has become diluted by the greamess of our fear 'I'he Amencan way of life calls for an enlightened people and an xnformed and literate socrety What should this mean m the thinldng and planmng of the future citizens of Homer? It seems to me that it should mean a more determined effort on the part of the adults to see that their children have The Homer High School has this year been accepted mto the highest accreditmg agency, the North Central Amociation. This means that according to the evaluation of unbiased professional visitors, your hlgh school rates with the best nn the nineteen North Central States. There rs much yet to be desired in facilities, curriculum, faculty and achievement. It should be the desire of all our cuizens to mamtain and :mp-ove our standards. It rs a well known fact that what people really want they seem to be able to get and afford, The best schools are never cheap and me poorer schools are almost always cheap. The question faces all of us How willing are we to see that our children have as good an education al opportunity as 18 possible for us to create for them? I, for one would never care to be classed among those who by their sayings and actions, clazm or admit that our children are inferior and therefore xt rs not necessary to prov1de the best in education for them.
