The teams came through the regular league debate season undefeated. In regional competition, they took all of their debates with unanimous decisions from three judge boards. This made the group eligible to enter two of their members in the annual Detroit Free Press Scholarship Contest. Carolyn Curry and Charles Angevine were chosen for this chance in a two day elimination style competition with fifteen other young people of the state. Carolyn went on to second day competition and came out fourth, missing the money scholarships by a very narrow margin. Our next competition was the semi -final debate where Peter Lucyshyn and Charles Angevine met and defeated Gladwin debaters. The final step was the debate for State Championship of class B at Rackham Auditorium, University of Michigan on Friday April 25. For this event our glee club opened the program with four beautiful a cappella numbers.Caro1yn Curry and Charles Angevine, debaters representing Homer, then took the platform to defend the proposition, Resolved: that all American citizens be conscripted for essential service in time of war against Detroit Country Day debaters, Jerry Davies and Robert fScottyj Borgman. By 4:30 PM the season was over with Homer as State Champions. Gold Gruen veri-thin wrist watches were received by each of our four varsity debaters--Carolyn Curry, Anne I-Iepler, Peter Lucyshyn and Charles Angevine. In addition to these, they received a large bronze trophy cup for the school trophy case. 35 HEADLIGHT STAFF LIBRARIANS STUDENT COUNCIL 1 H JUNIOR IIEII CROSS COUNCIL ZW? gr ,h If Q I L is S., .
