The Senior Class observed the planting of the Memorial Tree donated by Ingram’s Nursery. Nothing really ever dies That is not born anew— The MIRACLES of NATURE All tell us this is true . . . The flowers sleeping peacefully Beneath the Winter's snow Awaken from their icy grave When Spring winds start to blow And little brooks and singing streams. Icebound beneath the snow, Begin to babble merrily Beneath the sun’s warm glow . . . All all around on every side New life and joy appear To tell us NOTHING EVER DIES And we should have no fear. For death is just a detour Along life’s wending way That leads GOD’S chosen children To a bright and glorious day. —Helen Steiner Rice Brian Kilian and Kerry Wienke standing by the tree donated in memory of their brothers Brett and Ken. 2

I FBF.F It H November 4, 1979 January 19, 1981 The period of trial for 50 hos- tages from the American Embassy in Iran was a time of worry and frustration for their families and the entire country. Paul Lewis, a graduate of our school, was one of these hos- tages. The school and community felt concern for him and his par- ents. The unsuccessful try for liber- ation of these hostages in April, 1980, in which eight Americans lost their lives will be remem- bered as the fullest sacrifice a man can make for his fellow man. Another facet of this period was the escape of several Ameri- cans with the aid of the Canadian Embassy in Iran long after ours had been overrun. With total dis- regard for themselves, the Cana- dians made identity cards for the Americans and flew them out. Grateful Americans sent heartfelt thanks to all Canada. This taking of American hos- tages has brought forth a tide of patriotism in our nation. The hos- tages have said that if their cap- tivity has served our country in a positive way, their months and months of confinement has been worth it.
