We had the same sponsors our third year. Our last year in high school brought us Mr. Famey. Mrs. Gertrude Brown has stuck it out with the Class of 1973 for the entire four years. She gets our Medal of Brav- ery! The group met once a month to discuss ways in which they could make life more enjoyable. The Council operated the popcorn machine at the home football games, they sponsored a masquerade day at Hallowe’en, and they provided the students with a delightful movie and delicious refreshments at Christmas. Two students attended the Illinois Student Council State Convention in Chicago this year. The Student Council did the best they could to represent the student body, but they need some idea as to what the students want and expect of their school. Help the Council members by informing them with YOUR ideas! Officers--In front: Jo Krukewitt, Secretary; Diane Mc- Lane, Vice-President. Librarians There were various jobs to be as- sumed promptly when school opened in August. One of these was taking care of the library. Many students volunteered for the task of cataloging new books, filing magazines in the stacks, taking care of took fines, and supervising a host of other ac- tivities relating to keeping a library in good condition. 52 Susan Dodd, Debbie Pruitt, and Sharon Tate entertain grade schoolchildren in a library play. We all had a really great time at our first special event. Many members began the year's activities, but soon it dwindled to the really interested members. All the officers and devoted members stuck together and still had some good times putting on the chili supper, bowling, ice skating, playing games with our Mommys and serving them refreshments, stuffing our stomachs at the potlucks, playing rec games, testing our volleyball skills against the faculty, and last of all, making fools out of ourselves at the Mother-Daughter Banquet! But ... I don’t believe any of us looked at one another and thought, How foolish you are! ” All of us wanted to have a fantastic evening our last meeting together. G.A.A. Future Homemakers of America was different this year! It became FHA-HERO (Home Economics Related Occupations), so it was twice as active. To open the year, FHA-HERO held its annual Fresh- man Welcome Party at the Homer Lake on August 31. The Section Rally was held at Champaign Central on October 26. Then, Shiloh High School hosted a pizza party. The club was again kept busy with the football concession stand. The FHA-HERO presented a movie featuring Evel Knievel in February, and on May 13, beautiful gowns of all ages were modeled in the Parade of Brides show. The HERO men escorted the model brides. The show's climax was when Lynn Counts was crowned Little Miss FHA and Todd Childers was crowned Little Mr. HERO. The Homer Chaper of FHA-HERO was well represent- ed at the State Convention this year. Three students from FHA and three from HERO attended and saw Vickie relinquish the gavel representing her completion of the state presidency. The Parent Tea was held on May 8, then the FHA- HERO'ers went to St. Louis on May 12 and 13. It was two days of fun and excitement at Six Flags, dining at an elegant restaurant, and watching major league baseball games of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Montreal Expos. For FHA-HERO, 1972-73 was a very exciting and rewarding year. 56 Row one: Amy Tate, Secretary; Donna Pfaab, First Vice- president; Marilyn Umbarger, President; Dean Dodd, Second Vice-president; Carol Messman, Treasurer. This was HERO'S first year of existence; it proved to be a very busy and profitable year for all. Anyone in the work-study program can join after passing an entrance exam and paying dues. The HERO Club had an interesting first year since it had to pave the way for future HERO Clubs. The club had two money-making projects. They sold taffy apples at a few of the basketball games. Their main project was making and selling yule logs for the Christmas season. An employee-employer banquet was held at Connors Restaurant. Certificates of Appreciation were given to each employer for the part he played in making the work program a success. Since HERO affiliated to state level, the club sent three HERO representatives from the Plomer Chapter to the state FHA-HERO Convention held April 6 and 7 in Spring- field. It is suggested that if you belong to the work-study program, go one step further--Join HERO! Homer High School's Future Scientists of America organization had to be one of the busiest that HHS has seen. There were many interesting group activities in which members were able to participate. To name a few: they held well-attended parties; they watched modern movies dealing with rocketry. Their main project for the year was a weather balloon. We only hope that future FSA clubs will be equally active. Officers: Seated in back row: Peggy Morgan, Secretary; Cindy Clarke, Student Council. Cheerleaders keep on truckin' for Homecoming. Homecoming 1972 was fun and high spirits for everyone. The spirit started to soar with a bonfire, cheers, and hot chocolate sponsored by the Boosters Club on Thursday night. The cheerleaders and teachers put the whole student body in the mood by providing a rousing pep assembly on Friday afternoon. This was fol- lowed by the parade through Homer. Spirits couldn't be dampened by the gusty winds. It was a hard-fought game, but the final tally found Homer on the lower end of the 30-0 score. Pencils! Pencils for sale! Seniors predict the outcome of their last Homecoming game. “Raindrops Keep Falling on Homecoming’’ Senior float--The Best! To coincide with the Fairy Tales theme, the seniors decided upon Emerald City Presents—A Time for Us. Those attending the annual Homecoming Dance saw Paula Sturdyvin and Dave Cromwell crowned Queen and King for the 1972 Homecoming year. Those in the court were Cindy Clarke, Lynda James, Tom Clark, and Bill Edwards, seniors. The court attendants were Shelley Libka and John Graver, juniors; Jackie Ethridge and Paul Lewis, sophomores; Jill Dodd and Lynn Umbarger, freshmen. The chill of the evening will not hinder the memories of Homecoming '72. No. 1 Again!!! The Homer Panthers showed their power again this season as they clawed their way to a second straight Little Okaw championship. They finished the Little O circuit with a 13-1 record, which is super considering the overall balance in the league this year. Coach Skinner and Coach Trask managed to get three players on the All-Conference team and one on the Special Mention list; thus proving the high caliber of ball we played in Homer and both coaches’ skills. This year’s ball club never ran away with any games, but they showed confidence and a strong desire to win. Three seniors will be leaving the club this year, but with the fine crop of underclassmen, Homer should rule the Little O for at least another year. Homer's Wrestling Team? I wonder WHAT the punch is made of? FHA presented a special treat to the students of Homer High School and their guests on Saturday evening, February 17. The evening started by watching Evel Knievel in his white leather, star-studded motorcycle outfit try some spectacular feats on his Harley. There were plenty of refreshments after the movie and then everyone turned their attention to the gym for the rock sounds of the Doors and many other fabulous groups. Steve and Kathy are having a good time. Having fun, Dan? Parade of Brides Jeff Wilson escorts Kathy Harrold down the aisle. Every young girl dreams of her wedding day. Many of the girls of H. H. S. now know what the day holds for them. It is filled with mad rush- ing to get ready to march down the aisle. On March 13, F HA-HERO pre- sented Parade of Brides consisting of 68 bridal and bridesmaids' gowns modeled by their owners or by student models. They were escorted down the aisle by the HERO men. The show held the audience's attention by displaying a wide array of gowns. The oldest gown was worn in 1867; the latest, in 1973. Little Mr. HERO, Todd Childers, and Little Miss F. H. After an exhausting eight-hour flight, we landed at Paris International Airport. On Easter Sunday we went to Notre Dame and the Louvre. Monday, the Loire Valley castle tour was our excursion from Paris. On Wednesday we went to Versailles. A view from the top of the Eiffel Tower was one of the highlights of our trip.
