Margo Brandon played Pomp and Circumstance on the piano for the Processional and Recessional. Mr. B. J. Roberts gave the Invocation and the Benediction. The mixed ensemble and the Girls Chorus each were responsible for the evening’s music. A very good sermon was given by Mr. Alan McMillan. Then on Monday, May 25, came the long-awaited day--------Graduation Day. The Com- mencement exercises got under way at 8:00 p.m. with the Concert Band playing the Processional. Rev. W. J. Edmonds gave the Invocation. The Co-salutatorians then welcomed everyone. Connie Tracy welcomed the students and Stephen Taylor welcomed the parents. Dr. LeRoy Brown, of Kankakee, gave the address entitled, A Handful of Sand . Our valedictorian, Nancy Bertram, then gave the farewell address. Phil Lewis, of Post 20 then presented American Legion Awards for outstanding citizenship to Lynn Krukewitt and Nancy Bertram. Mr. Root presented the valedictorian and the Co-salutatorians each a pin. He then initiated into the National Honor'Society the following seven graduates: Nancy Bertram, Stephen Taylor, Connie Tracy, Rose Smith, Lynn Krukewitt, Harold Miller, and Paula Ellis. Mr. Root then presented the Class of ’64’ to Gerald Compton, President of the Board of Education, who then presented the diplomas. The Benediction was then given by Rev. Edmonds. The Concert Band played Pomp and Circumstance while the graduates of ’64’ marched out to the reception line. Many were glad that it had finally come to a close, but yet quite a few were in tears to think that after this night. May 25, they would no longer be a student at Homer High School. HISTORY CLASS OF 64 In the year of 1960-1961, thirty-four wide-eyed, hysterical, bushy-tailed, hesitant, but determined boys and girls registered as Greenies in the great insitution of Knowledge at Homer Community High School. Under the able direction of Miss Mary Hay, we the class of 64 chose our class officers. They were Peggy Bryan, President; Norman Reynolds, Vice President: Jan Thomas, Secretary - Treasurer; Lynn Krukewitt and K e n Felgenhour were elected as Student Council representatives. In 1961-1962 we came to school better known as Silly Sophomores . As we looked over our ranks, we found that wehadan increase of three Marian Bickers, C. R. Lawrence, and Tony Lawrence. Our class officers were Ken Felgenhour, President; Norman Reynolds, Vice President; Jan Thomas, Secretary; Jerry Robbins, Treasurer; and Darlene Bear, Parliamentarian. Steve Taylor, Rose Mary Reed, and Bev Koerner were our Student Council representatives. In 1962-1963 we entered as Jolly Juniors . Our class had decreased by three and it had gained one. Johnna Reed, Rose Mary Reed, and Glenda Hays left, and Bob Fiscus joined. Our class officers were Jerry Robbins, President; Neil Cook, Vice President; Jan Thomas, Secretary; Paula Ellis, Treasurer; and Norman Reynolds, Parliamentarian. Student Council representatives were Peggy Bryan, Ron Krukewitt, and Nancy Bertram had been elected as Vice Presidentof Student Council. Mrs. Brown was our new sponsor. In 1963 - 1964 we came to school known as the Sophisticated Seniors . This was to be our biggest and best year. Our new officers were Ken Felgenhour, President; Bev Koerner, Vice President; Jan Thomas, Secretary; Paula Elli% Treasurer; and Neil Cook, Parliamentarian. Our Student Council representatives were Judy McCoy, Peggy Bryan, Ron Krukewitt, and Nancy Bertram had been elected as President of Student Council. We found ourselves with three new classmates Connie Tracy, Dick Callahan, and Harold Miller. During our Senior year, we all found our calendars to be quite congested. Not only were several of our class members officers in extra-curricular organizations, but many were quite active in these clubs. We nad been enjoying the activities and experiences which past classes had enjoyed-getting class rings, homecoming, our class play, homerian staff, arrangements for baccalaureate and commencement, and finally the long awaited holiday in the OZARKS. Friday afternoon activities were continued with a rousing pep session and a brief parade of the class floats and candidates. That evening, September 27, the Panthers defeated Rossville 21 to 0 in true Homecoming style. During halftime the Sophomo e float, We’ll Bury 'Em Alive , was awarded the first prize by the Senior class. Soon after the game, the beautifully decorated gym filled with laughing, happy people, and the Homecoming Dance, featuring Dick Halleman and his orchestra, began. At eleven o’clock queen Peggy Bryan, F.F.A. candidate, and king Ken Felgenhour, H Club candidate, danced to the theme, Blue Velvet . SWEETHEART DANCE The annual Sweetheart Dance was held on February 15. Despite the terrible snowstorm, lots of people came. The F. H. A. girls (with help from some of the boys) did an excellent job in decorating the gym with red, pink, and white crepe paper. Hearts and cupids scattered inadvertantly around the dance floor, helped carry out the Valentine theme. A variety of music, played by Steve McClellan and his seven piece orchestra, began at 9 P. M. and continued throughout most of the evening until midnight. At ten-thirty, the king and queen candidates began to assemble. The court consisted of: Senior Class - Paula Ellis and Steve James; Junior Class - Jane Robinson and Denny Stulginskis; Sophomore Class - Susan Canaday and Steve Vergara; Freshman Class - Barbara Tate and Dale Cope.F. Sponsor, announced Beverly andSteve as the Sweetheart King and Queen for 1964. They were crowned by last year's king and queen, Don Frye and Sara Sy. The new royal pair led the rest of their court in dancing to the theme, There, I've Said It Again. The Panther’s next match was the Catlin Wolverines. The score was 7-0. Our next game was our Homecoming with Rossville. The Panthers ate up the Bobcats to a score of 21 - 0. The prowling Panthers then went to ABL’s Homecoming and defeated them to a score of 13 - 7. In the last 27 seconds of this game Dick Reynolds scored our winning touchdown. Our next game was Ridgefarm’s Homecoming, with the winning score of 20 - 13, in our favor. Our game with Milford was a non-East Central Conference Game, but the Panthers beat them anyway to a score of 15 - 7. The Homer Panthers then beat Jamaica 26 - 25. Our last and final game with St. Joe-Ogden determined the East Central Champs. The Homer Panthers were going great guns until the night of the game. But as all great heroes finally die, the Spartans beat us Panthers 24 - 7, thus ending the season with 7 wins and 1 loss. This is the first time in Homer’s history to go this far with an 11 man team.
