We appreciate his helping us prepare for parties, ball games, plays and the Senior Trip. In addition to this, we want to thank him for being so patient during the various mathematics and science classes. We wish him and his wife many happy years as teachers. Brown Student Council Standing: Mr. Busenhart, Jack Beason, Bob Jones, James Wienke, Herb Lacey, Charles Danner, Jean Magers. Seated: Mike Stayton, Joyce Wienke, Dick Beard, Chuck Krukewitt, Jim Rowand. This year our Council consisted of two girls and nine boys. Last year the students chose Dick Beard as President. At our first meeting Chuck Krukewitt was chosen Vice-President. Jim Rowand was chosen Treasurer and Joyce Wienke was chosen Secretary. The Council sponsored an All-school Party, which was combined with the initiationof the freshmen. During the party we played games, and, of course, ate. At every home game we always had a big delicious-looking cake that we raffled off. This was one of the Council's ways of making money. During the year we sold pennants, ballpoint pens, schedule pencils, sweat-shirts and T-shirts. Dick Smith and Jerry Morgan attended the District Convention at Hoopeston in the fall. The Council visited ABL and we all had a very interesting day. The President for the Council for 58-59 will be Dick Smith, and the Vice-President will be Jerry Morgan. The 1957-1958 Student Council enjoyed working for and with the stu- dents of Homer High School. Eight lettermen returned for the 1957-58 season. They were Chuck Krukewitt, Charles Gurnea, Don Forsythe, Herb Lacey, Jerry Felgenhour, Jim Reynolds, Dick Smith, and Jim Rowand. The Panthers were rarin to go when their first game rolled around. Our first game was with St. Joe, there, on September 13. The starting lineup was as follows: Jack Ellis, senior, center; Dennie Hough, junior, right guard; Bob Jones, sophomore, left guard; Jim Rowand, junior, right tackle;Chuck Krukewitt, senior, left tackle; Dick Beard, senior, right end; Dick Smith, junior, left end; Jack Beason, junior, quarterback; Herb Lacey, junior, fullback; Jerry Felgenhour, senior, right half- back; and Jim Reynolds, senior, left half-back. In that first game with St. Joe we succeeded in beating them 12 to 0. Spirits were very high after the game and we were sure of having a good season. However, it was to be our only win of the season. Scores throughout the season were: September 20 Homer 0 Catlin 20 October 10 Homer 27 Ridgefarm 50 September 27 Homer 7 Rossville 34 October 18 Homer 12 Mansfield 13 October 4 Homer 6 A. B. L. 19 October 2S Homer 6 Jamacia 20 Homer played Jamacia October 25, here. It was the final game of the season and it was also our homecoming game. Front row: Kathy Krukewitt, Angie Lynch, Dick Beard, and Bobby Taylor. On the night of October 25, 1957, the annual Homecoming was celebrated, A large crowd attended the first event—the football game. Despite all our cheers and effort. Homer lost to Jamacia. Jamacia didn't crush our high spirits, for everyone had fun at the second event—the dance in the high school gym. The theme of the dance. Stardust, was carried out by a huge white star as a false ceiling of the gym. The rest of the gym was decorated in blue and white crepe paper, with glittery stars of all sizes hanging from the ceiling. Jerry Felgenhour crowned Angie Lynch as Queen and Jim Reynolds crowned Dick Beard as King of the 1957 Homecoming. Walt Loftis' Orchestra fur- nished the music for dancing. The other candidates were Julia Krukewitt and Danny Mullis from the Fresh- man class; Carol Burton and James Wienke, alternate Joe Rowand, from the Sophomore class; Rene Robertson and Russell Courtney from the Junior class; Diane Stayton and Chuck Krukewitt from the Senior class; Joyce Wienke and Dick Beard from the Student Council; Angie Lynch from the F. H. A. and Ken Thomas from the F. F. A. Everyone , especially the senior class, will always remember the lovely 1957 Homecoming. 42 CO Senior Play Standing: Angie Lynch, Norma Henderson, Nancy Walton, Joyce Wienke, Don Forsythe, Jerry Felgenhour, Dick Beard, Judy Beason, Jim Reynolds, Barbara Taylor, and Mr. Wickiser.
