The Homerian 1957 Volume 39 PUBLISHED BY THE CLASS OF 1957 HOMER HIGH SCHOOL Dedicated — To our Mothers and Fathers--whose interests have been in the improvement of our lives- whose love and encouragement have been inspi- rational—and whose never ending sacrifices have made possible these four years of high school— we respectfully dedicate the Homerian of 1957. Seated: Herbie Lacey, Nancy Wickiser, Mike Stayton, Dick Beard, Ted Dutton, Donald Vern Robertson, and Mr. Busenhart. This year our Council consisted of two girls and eleven boys. Last year the students chose Ted Dutton as President. At our first meeting Donald Vern Robertson was chosen Vice-President, Tommy Mast was chosen Treasurer and Nancy Wickiser was chosen Secretary. The Council sponsored an All-School Party, which was combined with the initiation of the freshmen. During the party we danced, played games and, of course, ate. At every home game you always saw a big delicious-looking cake that was being raffled off. This was our Council's main way of making money. During the year they sold pennants, ball point pens, and sweat shirts. . In the fall, the Council had a Student Council Carnival. They had a lot of fun putting this on. Nine members of the Council attended the District Convention at Bloomington in the fall. Two were chosen to attend the State Convention in Chicago on April 26. The Council visited Jamaica one day to learn about their school. Dick Beard has been chosen President for next year. Dick and Ted are going to attend the State Convention at Chicago. The 1956-1957 Student Council enjoyed working for and with the students of Homer High School. Bottom Row: Ted Dutton, Dan Robinson, Don Robertson, Tom Mast, Ron Allen, and Don Talbert. The season opened August 27. Twenty eight boys reported for the first practice of the year. Six lettermen returned for the 1956 season. They were Tom Mast, Dan Robinson, Donald V. Robertson, Ted Dutton, Ron Allen, and Jim Reynolds. The Homer Panthers worked hard to be ready for their first game. It was with Catlin, at Catlin, on Sept. 21. The starting lineup was as follows: Tom Mast, senior, center; Ted Dutton, senior, right guard; Mike Stayton, junior, left guard; Ron Allen, senior, right tackle; Chuck Krukewitt, junior, left tackle; Don Rob- ertson, senior, left end; Don Forsythe, junior, right end; Dan Robinson, senior, quarter-back; Herb Lacey, sophomore, full-back; Jerry Felgenhour, junior, right half-back; and Jim Reynolds, junior, left half-back. Homer received the kick and scored before they lost possession of the ball. The touchdown was made by our half-back Jerry Felgenhour, who ran forty yards right up the middle for the only score of the game. Catlin, shortly after we scored, had us on our own one yard line with two downs to work with. Homer receiv'd a break when Catlin was moved back on an off-side penalty. On their last down they were thrown for a loss and the scoring tension eased up a bit. But never the less it was give and take all the way. The final score was Homer, 6; Catlin, 0. Scores throughout the rest of the season were: Sept. 28-Ro8sville 6 Homer 18 Oct. 5-ABL 26 Homer 0 Oct. 11-Ridgefarm 26 Homer 13 Oct. 19-Mansfield 7 Homer 26 Oct. 26-Jamaica 26 Homer 7 Nov. 2-St. Joe 13 Homer 34 Homer played St. Joseph Nov. 2, at home. It was the Panthers last game of the season. It was also Tom Mast's, Ted Dutton's, Don Robertson's, Dan Robinson's, Ron Allen's, and Don Talbert's last game to be played for good ol' Homer High. 36 Homer Flower Shop and Greenhouse Charles Gurnea Don Robertson Ht. 5-11 Ht. 6 Wt. 153 Wt. 158 Jerry Felgenhour Ht. 5-9 Wt. 176 Dan Robinson Yr. On the night of October 11, 1956 the annual Homecoming was celebrated. A large crowd attended the first event—the football game. Despite all the cheers and effort, our team bowed to Ridgefarm 26-13. Ridgefarm didn't crush our high spirits for everyone had fun at the second event—the dance in the High School Gym. The gym was attractively decorated with streamers of orange, yellow, and brown, which carried out the theme. Autumn Leaves. Leaves of various sizes and shapes could be found almost anywhere. Gene Trimble's Orchestra furnish- ed the music for dancing. Dan Robinson crowned Elizabeth Collisson as Queen and Nedra Summers crown- ed Tommy Mast as King of the 1956 Homecoming. The other candidates were Virginia Buck and Jerry Morgan from the Freshman class; Dick Smith and Kaye Pridemore from the Sophmore class; and Angie Lynch and Jim Reynolds from the Junior class.
