Student Council Standing-Dick Dutton; Clyde Smith; Mary Lee Messman, Vice President; Ronnie Allen Seated-Mike Stayton; Gary Pridemore; Carol Miller, Secretary; Leroy Gurnea, President; Janet Strohl; Nancy Wickiser, Treasurer STUDENT COUNCIL The first official act of the Student Council of 1954-55 was to elect its administrative body. Those chosen were Mary Lee Messman, Vice President; Carol Miller Secretary; and Nancy Wickiser Treasurer. Leroy Gurnea, the president, had been chosen the spring before. On Nov. 6 Homer Student Council sent a delegation, consisting of Leroy Gurnea, Mary Lee Messman, Nancy Wickiser, Janet Strohl and Mike Stayton, to Decatur for the District Student Council Convention. An interesting and enjoyable time was had by all. On Nov. 10 the Student Council played host to Ogden Student Council for half a day and on Jan. 26 returned the visit. These exchange visits were a continuation of the programs of both schools for better understanding co-operation between neighboring schools. At the District Basketball Tournament the Student Council sold Centennial Derbies in the various school colors. This project proved most successful, the Council made a nice profit and the Derbies added tremendously to the spirit and color of this exciting tournament. The most important project of the year was the introduction of dancing lessons for all inter- ested students. This project had been considered for several years but it was not considered practical until this year when Warren Clark of the Acadamy of Dance in Danville was con- tracted to give twelve lessons in ballroom dancing. These lessons proved not only to be greatly beneficial but also quite entertaining. 5
