Homer Belts Alumni 83-60 HOMERVILLE - Homer High school' Cavaliers varsity squad dumped'the school's alumni team 83-60 in the annual clash in the Homerville gym Saturday night. Fresh from a Friday night vic- tory over Spencer, -the varsity .chalked up its 12th victory while carrying four losses on the record books. Bob Stine and Jim McFredrick scored 17 points each to lead var- sity scoring, while Roger McFred- rick tallied 15 and Wade Brooks got 13 points. Bob Jeffery netted 19 points and John Juchum scored 16 in the alumni attack. The alums saw a first quarter- l8-l7 lead disappear early in the second quarter, which period end- ed 43-25 for the varsity. By thg three-quarter mark the youngsters led 67-40. HOMER TOPS BUCKEYE The Homer Cavaliers continu- ed in their tie for second place in the league standings and Coach Eugene Turks was able to spellhis ironmen starting five with three replacements, Friday' night as the Cavaliers spanked the Buckeye Bucks 91-62 on the Homer hardwood. The Bucks made it a battle for the first quar- ter and the score was all tied up at 22 each at the end of the per- iod but from .then on it was all Homer with the winners leading 43-34 at the intermission and 73- 45 going into the final frame. Bob Stine, Homer center, hit the hoop for 11 field goals and 12 foul conversions to take top hon- ors with 34 points while Summer- ton! and, Rog McFrederick count- ed 17 and 16, respectively, for the winners. Duane Brooks paced the losers with 22 points while Haury and Grim tied with 13 each. The Homer reserves made it a clean sweep by defeating the Buckeye juniors 47-34 in the pre- iliminary game. BASKETBALL AROUND 11-15 Ruggles-Troy's Hard Luck Results In Loss The Ruggles-Troy Golden Flashes found that a 'miss is as' good as a mile last night. The Flashes time after time had the ball curl off the edge of the hoop for them, and as a result took theireleventh defeat in 1 outings from Homerville, 53- 48. The game was part ,of the polio benefit basketball card played at McDowell auditorium. Ruggles netted only 15 field goals while Homerville had 23. The win- ners pushed in seven of 17 free throws, and Ruggles connected on 18 of 33. Both clubs missed out on seven possible points at the charity line. Ruggles was on top most of the initial canto, but the count was tied at the period's end, 13-all. Ken' Drushell sank a foul in the first minute of the second to hand the Flashes their last lead of the game at 14,-13. Substitute guard Bob Norris of Homerville then netted a fielder to put the Cavaliers in front to stay at 15-14. Their smallest margin after halftime, except for the final score, was seven points. It was 28-21, the Cavaliers in front, at the half. After the invaders had taken a 35-23 bulge early in the third, Ruggles challenged brief- ly with a five-point burst. However, The Homer basketball team has been asked to play inthe benefit game with Ruggles-Troy at' Ash- land on Thursday night of this week. The featured game will be between the Cleveland Browns and the Myers team of Ashland. o e e HOMEES IRON Again using only the five start- ing players, the Homer Cavaliers continued in their tie with LeRoy for second place with a compar- atively easy victory over the Barbers at Seville, Friday night. The Cavaliers stepped out to a 20- 10 lead at the end of the first quarter and were never in danger, enjoying period leads of 35-22 and 45-34 and winning by a final score gf 71-49. Also, probably just to show their balance, four of the five Cavaliers scored in two figures, Jim McFrederick with 20, Stine with 18, Rog Mc- Frederick with 14 'and Bisard with 13. Summerton, the other member of the quintet, hit the basket for six points.
