Class History lt was back in the year l942, when seven little tots bravely walked into the Homer Schoolhouse. Mrs. Max Hisey Knee Lola Kiplingerj greeted each one by name. Patricia Lenz, Shirley Smith, Jeanette Finley, Vilma Johnston, Shirley Wilson, Darwin Smith, and last but not least, Philip Howe came toddling in. He is the only one who has kept toddling along in this one particular school for twelve years. The second year was getting a little better. We had a new teacher, Mrs. Charles Hockensmith Knee Myrtle Hastingsl who decided to try her luck at teaching the pupils. The fourth grade was the same except that Nancy Longsdorf from LeRoy was added to the class. The fifth grade was honored with a new teacher, Mrs. Delcamp. That year they were all very ambitious and they bought a radio for their room. ln the sixth grade we added Frances Maice and Wade Brooks from Cleveland. ln the seventh grade we added Jim Shadley, Jim Conwell, Geraldine Frank, Fredaline Frank, and Ethel Weaver all from Albion. Mrs. Bert Zimmerman Qnee Olga Pidzyrayloj was our advisor. During the eighth grade we were all little angels because we wanted to be accepted into the high school the next year. Shirley Smith left us to go to Wellington, Nancy Longsdorf went to Nova, and Ethel Weaver to West Salem. Mrs. Sara Starr was our advisor. The ninth grade storied off with a week of Freshman initiation, after which we were welcome to Oome to all the high school parties, etc. Wade, Philip, and Bob were on the basketball squad while b Geraldine and Fredaline were maiorettes. Frances Sexton and Ed Brazis entered our class but at the end of the year Pat Lenz left to finish at Delaware, Ohio. Mr. Lenz was our advisor. The tenth grade had two newcomers, Gloria Jeffery from West Salem and Eddie Kopylchak from Pennsylvania. Geraldine and Fredaline were chosen first team cheerleaders. Geraldine received honorable mention in the county cheerleading contest. Shirley won the local and county poetry reading contest which enabled her to go to the state where she rated excellent. Wade and Philip were on the basketball and baseball squads. Frances, Shirley, and Gloria took the District-State Scholarship Tests. At the end of that year Jim Shadley left to go to Northwestem, Jim Conwell to Ashland, and Frances Sexton to Sullivan. Mr. Workman was our faithful advisor that year.
