But where do we go? . . . Who's the teacher? . . . Which building? . . . What do we do? . . . Oh!!! . . . Amid this com- motion, we started our first year of high school. We were the one hundred fifteen new greenies who had to know it or else! In most cases it was or else. Our first meeting in the auditorium was called to order by Miss LaVerne Zimmerman, our class sponsor, who has since left the blissful clime of school. Our nominees for office were chosen on the basis of dependability, honesty, and, it hap- pens, scholarship. We selected green and white as our class colors, and the following students were elected as our officers: President .,......... .,..... H elen D'Zmura Vice-President ,..,,,,, ....,... S teve Demeter Secretary .,,,,.... .,...,. Irene Sisko Treasurer ...,...........,,........ ,,,,,,,, D ick Bush The first event of the year was a benent skating party which, to our amazement, was . . I guess . . . a success. Then arrived the first school dance. The auditorium was adorned in green and white, our class colors. The place was jammed with spec- tators and a few dancing couples! . . . My, were they a daring lot! By the end of the year we had become quite accustomed to the realm of secondary education. Make way! . . . Scatter, you bunch of, Miss Balfour said this wasn't good terminology, meat- heads . . . Who's talking? . . . We are now sophomores and can't be bothered by those silly, uneducated freshmen. Were we above them? Sure! We were on the second fioor. The class had dropped a few members. Bashful Steve Demeter decided it was useless to try to captivate dashing Freda. We received a new sponsor, Miss Annette Acone. We had an election too: President .... ....,,,,....,,,,,,,,.,,.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, J Ohm Sink Vice-President ......... ........... ' Our first money making scheme was the Turkey Twirl. Our intake was fairly good. That candy machine was a nauseating thing. In went the nickles, and we went into the red, but we didn't go under. During the year we kept our heads above water with other attractions. Dick Smatana and Freda Duff had quite a romance, but alas, it diedg there were too many hsh, and Freda had to swim away. Being . . . well . . . rather a supernatural class, we presented the play, The Gboft Story, which developed talent and encouraged cooperation among the students. It made us feel more at ease in front of the student body. You talk about sav'vy. We had it . . . We were nearing that stage when we knew it all. Oh, boy! No classes this afternoon! This exclamation was uttered some time ago, exactly, on October 17, 1951. That afternoon the class members were measured for their rings. This year we were greatly interested in dates. Ah! September Z2 netted a nice little sum from the Football Frolic, held in the school audi- torium, and shortly after we elected officers: President .........,........ ........ Yah know, mista' inter-locketer, Hoated across the auditorium. Who from? Wa-ll, dese end men were on de loose agin. Amid greasepaint and minstrel corn we managed to manufacture a few laughs. Miss Dorothy Balfour, whom we shall hear from later, helped to get the chorus in shape, Friday, April 13 . . . The April showers dance . . . There were no April showers . . . just people who showered us with quarters. I say old chap, let's have a cup of teaf' Yes, May 15 the girls entertained their mothers at a late afternoon tea party. This was it! For us who knew it all, it would be a snap. Prematurely, our school days were over. Ah, hal you fiend . . . chemistry! Ah . . . er . . . well we were not the brightest class in fourteen years. Before the first semester examinations we all choked on anything that started with b . . . b . . . ballads. Where have you been Lord Randal, my son? . . . No! . . . More! . . . Have mercy! We tripped up a third sponsor, Miss Dorothy Stephens. Of course, she proceeded to comb our hair, but you know a senior. Well, we're mighty. The class election came next. The roses won out: President ..,,,.,....,... ............ During football season Glenn Shankle was in- jured and spent many months in the hospital. 57 HOfGIfHIfAN 1952 Three cheers for Glenn. He was a lighter all the way. We wish him great success in the future years. Memory! . . . Yes, it's still working . . . The class play. For six weeks the uncomplaining voice of Miss Dorothy Balfour could be heard, expounding upon the theory of West Indian Voo- doo. Our class play was given December 5-6. The n-n-name, G-G-Ghost W'-Wan!-I-ted . . . by Guernsey Che is not a cowj LePelley. George Barney met his first love, Delores Beech. Mary Insana received her ring fnot a class ringj, from some gentleman who resides in Indiana. Time marches on! . . . Washington, D. C. was invaded, but not by the Russians. Many members of the class enjoyed a great time. Hotel life is among the best. Tide Local Union donated 55100, the Ladies' Auxiliary 330, McIntyre 363, and Lucerne 544. Class night! . , . and the eighty verses by two authors of the senior class tickled the fifth rib. Tom Smith kept late hours all last year, Why? He loved those Luciusboro hills. Quite a few girls found greener pastures in Blairsville. Baccalaureate service and Commencement were held, with every proud parent beaming. Yes, all good things come to an end . . . Some cried! . . . Some shouted for joy! . . . Others were just non- chalant about the whole matter! . . . Us? . . . Well, were not going to say. By the way, we had a very good speaker at Commencement, Dr. Pearl O. Wfeston, the Dean of Women, of Pennsylvania State College. Wil7Z65I65.' HELEN D'ZMURA DON CIPOLLINI Prophecy of Class of '52 JUNE as, 1965 Here's the latest news from the wires of the Associated Press: Washington! - President Hardin ordered an investigation of the Coury Clothing Corporation. The President said the in- vestigation would be on the new law recently in- troduced by Senator john Hibel of Graceton. The investigation committee will be headed by Thomas Housholder. In Housholder's committee will be the honorable Andrew Leysock and Gio- vanna Granelli, the first woman representative of the recently formed state of Yankeetown, U.S.A. George Coury, president of the Corporation was not available for comment. Rumors have Coury in Hollywood making a production for Turley Studios Incorporated. john Turley denied the rumor. Secretary of Agriculture, john Sink, has ap- pointed Walter Piekarski, Rose Fabin, and Loretta Cook to head the delegation to Tim-Buck-Too in southern Africa. The delegation will be flown to Africa in a SWA jetoliner. The latest word from the offices of SWA fShimko and Shimmel World Airlinesj is that the company's most skilled flyer, Terry Patterson, will personally be in charge of the Flying Plymouth, his plane. In his crew will be Eugene Kokolis, jacob Smith, Betty Gonda, and Thelma Bowman. fThe girls are to serve as hostesses and morale builders.j Pittsburgh! - Steve Demeter, local Pirate slug- ger fbroke Kiner's record of 63 homers in 1958 when he crashed out 64j, Frances Voyten, out- standing guard, and Tom Smith will be honored by the Homer City Dapper Dans at a banquet. Dick Smatana, brilliant quarterback of the world football champs, the Steelers, will be unable to attend the banquet. Rumors have it that he twisted his ankle while chasing a box of snuff that was rolling down a stairway. Dick Kunkle and George Barney have just announced that a Miss America Contest will be held in their factory at Miami Beach, Florida. Naturally the two bathing suit manufacturers were quoted as saying that anyone not wearing one of their original creations would be disqualified from the contest. Freda Duff and Roberta Ewing, wealthy own- ers of the Indiana McCrory 5 and 10 cent store, were reported to have entertained their employees at Delores and Doris QDulfalo and Adamsj Drive-In-Theatre. Here's a bulletin just handed me. LaRue Hatherill and Irene Sisko are in the hospital as a result of an accident. Patty Gnibus, head of the receiving ward at Indiana, reported their con- dition as fair. A new contest has just been announced, it is the cat most likely to succeed contest. Our own Helen D'Zmura, who has been raising cats since she was graduated, has been announced the win- ner. The judges, Robert Smith and Harold Everett, said that these cats were the most perfect they had ever seen. Flash! - Bill Martinak is in the hospital. This time the famous tester and stunter for SWA has crashed while testing a new jet. The jet was a product of the aeronautical ingenuity of Thomas Henry and Dick Bush. It looks very much as if Bush was bushed from too much night life. Dallas Mucci, historical editor for the New York Times, announced an amazing discovery in the fast widening field of enthology Cstudy of prehistoric manj. All we know is his secretary, Rose Menegatti, said that the doctor was on the verge of a great discovery. james Hill, sheriff for the district of Wasli- ington, has just released this bulletin - 'loan Moorhead has been picked up as a suspicious character. Miss Moorhead said it was a mistakeg she was loafing on the dock waiting for her ship to come in. A bulletin has just come in reporting that Mary Insana has had a little bad luck. Her store that had everything burned this evening. Fire chief, Bob Bender, said the store was completely 1952 HOfCIfHI-AN s - 60 destroyed. Mrs. Marjorie Ferguson fformerly Fisherj, next door neighbor to the fire, said there was a tremendous explosion. The fire also spread to Helen Biconik's Lobster Palace but very little damage was done there. A group of student nurses, Phyllis Kelly, Patty Zometsky, and Barbara Wincek were living in an upstairs apartment of the fire- destroyed store and escaped without harm. Irene Machuga, famous New York model has been charged with overwork by her secretary, Beverly Larson. Miss Larson said that Miss Machuga has made her work for five extra min- utes without pay. Robert Morris Business School has given me the names of the most outstanding students to graduate this year. Anyone looking for some good secretaries contact Verna Ruddock and jo- anne Danowsky. These persons can be reached by contacting either Anne Scribe or Anne Luksich, heads of the respective departments at Robert Morris. Any school interested in an excellent elemen- tary teacher should get in contact with Natalie Mucci. Natalie has recently been graduated from the University of Lucerne Mines. What a night for accidents! Here's a bulletin just handed to me by my secretary, Shirley Wil- kerson. - Donald Cipollini's tractor and trailer got away from him while coming into Blairsville. The truck rolled over on Norma Smith's yard. Norma said she was emptying the vacuum cleaner sack when it happened. Dorothy Smrek jerked her hair out at the roots when the loud crash occurred. She was getting a permanent at Rita Troxell's beauty parlor. Mary Ann Warholic, who was in the gym, across the street from the accident watch- ing her professional basketball team work out, said something apparently went wrong with the steering apparatus. joan Windows, secretary at McCrory's 5 and 10, announced a new wing would be added to the Indiana store. Ruby Keener was awarded the con- tract for building the new wing. joan Windows said the contract was awarded to a woman be- cause of the delicate lingerie that is to be han- dled in the new wing. 61 - HO-CIfHIfAN 1952 Elizabeth Pagliaro, part owner of the Hutch- inson Bakery, has announced new hours. The new hours were made because the bakers of that estab- lishment, Marcella Kohouth, Marian Pierce, and Gwendolyn Patterson, could not arrange their bus schedule to match the old hours. A bright young prospect has come up for the Pirates. johnny Rogers, who one year ago was given up as hopeless as far as baseball is con- cerned, has settled down and is really playing ball now. Who wouldn't settle down if they had some- one like Ann Shewcyk to come home to each day? The Pirates' dietitian, Rita Biggie, said she never saw anyone eat as much as this boy does. It takes poor Dorothy Reed three trips with food to get him satisfied. Barbara Kish, Chief Petty Officer of the Waves on the U.S.S. Wildcat, has announced a change in her personnel. Verna Stuckich is the ship's new nurse, and Ruth Thomas is a new secretary to Glenn Shankle, the ship's captain. SWA's best customer, Marie Obreczian, was seen buying another ticket to Luciusboro. It looks as if she and johnny have made up again. The Arlene Neal Corporation has announced that a new beauty parlor will be opened in Coral. Arlene also said it would serve as a barber shop for the men when business slowed down. Mike Shimko's roller rink has been redec- orated. Andy Okopal, head designer, said the rink now has that come on look. Mrs. George's, the former Frances Skultety, program, How to get your man earlyj' will be terminated. Her lectures have been discontinued because too many youngsters are dropping out of school to get married. Tony Smogg, the latest heart crusher of the bobby-soxers, was in town last night. The bobby- soxers were disappointed. You see Tony's charm- ing wife, the former Arbutus Kunkle, put in an appearance. Arbutus met Tony when she was working for him as a make-up girl. This is your old reporter, Glenn McNutt, signing off, to see if I can't mooch a cup of coffee from my sponsor to stand off malnutrition. 2:3 .2 +8 +A L- Ol mbition A S Song orite Food HV F Hgt.
