Of the Genie's thousand and one taies the most amazing, is y that of one Mr. Arthur Price and of his hfe of aiding others, esneciahy the graduating dass of X954 Even the Genie, accus- tomed as he is to the unusuah is dazzXed by this storyfbright with ah kinds of knowTedg,e and with deeds performed with quiet devotion to the right and the good, fn a puff of smoke the Genie appeared to the X954 Odyrxuy staff. To this manf dedicate. Then smoke and Genie vanished, Therefore, to this K man, we proudiy dedicate this account of our schooi hfe. Y Since our first year in high schooi, Mr. Price has been our guide and knight of honor. He heined us with every subiect we encountered. The sciences are his fieid, but that made no difference when we had a probiem in mathematics or Latin. And if we took Greek, weve heard that he coutd even het? us with that diffictdt rdphabet. He has been ciass advisor, teacher, and friend. Outside of the schooi room, Mr. Price is the same kind ofd busy heiper of others. He supervises the care of migrant work- ers' chddren in the state, travehng, mdes upon mdes each year in his work. He is active in one of our iocat churchesfsang tenor in the choir for many years and now is one of the Tead- ing, business officiaTs of the church. He has been a deiegate to the New York State Teachers' Association, as weh as hcdding X cat teachers' association offices, ee, Hes the most 'Q severaT o . we ah agr V' ' ' es, and 4-Y-img J:.:1MZ. After you have read it, we're sure that you will agree that our class is one that you'll always remember. Let's go back to the very start of our journey through the grades on a magic carpet, and take a look at our kindergarten class of 1942. Believe it or not, there are only seven lucky people that rode the magic carpet all the way through. Sally Randall, Ernest Skinner, june Root, jean Anderson, Steven Alexander, Nancy Marble and Bobby Ben- nett were the ones who gave Miss Whitney a hard time, and ever since that first year, they have been giving teachers plenty to think about. If you were to gaze into your crystal ball of the past, Genie, you would behold many children hopping onto our magic carpet ride through the grades. The first to come into view would be Skip Garner, Paul Neuman and Clarabelle Cutler getting on in first grade, and then Val Bower, Donel Sweeney, Gordie Fellows and Grace Ripley hitching a ride on the carpet in second grade. In the third grade, Don Lansdowne, Gwink Potter, Dick Marvin and Dick Lindsay climbed aboard. Dick almost fell off our carpet at times because of clowning, but, luckily, we rescued him from taking the plunge. During this year, our carpet caught on fire and we all thought our school days were over. Quickly we bought a transfer ticket and hopped on the next carpet to come along. Our ride was fairly bumpy as we rode through the fourth and fifth grades in the Capitol Theatre basement and in an empty ice cream store. However, we managed to pick up johnny Hammon, Shirley Lawson, John Bean, Jeannine Bell, june Breeds, Kenny Cook and Donna Stevely as we sailed past. Miss judge was our teacher then and ,we can still remember the mild way we were sometimes treated, especially if we talked too much. jean Anderson, Sally Randall and Gwen Potter spent hours on the play- ground in search of boys with which to teeter-totter and play softball. Susie Bowker, our present day bundle of happiness, Gloria Samson, Wilma Redfield ther name is Wilma not Haroldj, iron man Don Reynolds, Dawn fnot sunsetj Cooper and Yvonne Champion joined our super-duper carpet in the sixth grade. In those days we used to stretch our vocal cords to their utmost while we had singing instructions and people within a mile radius of the CCC shacks would swear our class had the loudest, even if not the worst, voices in Homer Academy. In our seventh grade we moved into the old, high school and at first some of us were lost in this new strange place Our carpet made several stops at Preble Scott and McGraw to load on more passen- gers Among the people who purchased tickets were John Steger Charlotte Sutton flucky for Kenj, Peg- gy Park jim fLincolnj Reagan, Paul Albro flucky ' for the girlsj and, last, but not least, Francis Austin. Mr Kline made us feel very much at home in our 5 new environment, along with the aid of Miss Stoker, Mrs Carty and Miss Fuller. In eighth grade we A W started going to games and dances. Right about this x time Rosabelle Smith, Flora May Coit and Ardie ! X Allen climbed aboard also. Val Bower had returned . L, from Florida and England at the same time, and we loved to listen to her rather English accent - you f'-J know old chap. Some girls became interested in fai- cheering and started to root for our eighth grade in- -5h : 1v ei X.. I if 1 In the freshman class, our carpet stopped at Scott '4 once again to pick up more passengers. Betty Wall wg-A and Barb Thomas four great musicians, provided ,lg 1 our carpet with plenty of music. Gail Willard provided our carpet with potatoes to weigh it down after she flew in from Maine. Now we were high schoolers and we surely began to whoop it up. Changing of classes was a new experience for us. When we staged our first dance, The Spring Fralirf' we were overjoyed by its success. Our sophomore year was our dream come true year, as we finally moved into the new school. Now our school was no longer Homer Academy but Homer Central, and our class was growing by leaps and bounds. Cortland was kind to our carpet when it sent us such nice people as Marilyn Storey, Nancy McNary, Frank Wasley, Ed Tifft, David Seager, Floyd Blowers, Helen Harrington and Terry Nottingham. All of these kids helped make our class one to remember. Dave Russell, a smaller boy among us fonly'6' 4 j, joined our carpet this same year from New York City. This year we also held the US0jUl70l1l0I'6 Sqllffllln in the new gym. When we became juniors, Wilson Maclntire, the president of our senior class, ar- rived from Dover Plains. Gini Porter also arrived to hop on our magic carpet. Mr. Baldwin was certainly disgusted with our constant talking, but we were thoroughly scared when those horrible Regents came up in june. They were plenty tough, but we soon forgot all of our problems with our presentation of the junior Prom, M0011figl:1t Mimi. which went as smoothly as did'our velvet carpet to bring an end to our junior class. Finally our carpet rolled into the last stretch of our long trip and we coasted into the final year of school. The first persons to join us were Alberta Congdon from Cincinnatus and Emily Waters from Syracuse. Now the number of students on our magic carpet came to a total of sixty. The Senior Trip and Senior Ball marked the end of a won- derful school life for the class of '54, So you can see, Genie, that sixty of us, from all parts of the state and elsewhere, have climbed aboard our magic carpet and now we are about to climb farther, once our carpet comes to a halt upon our graduation. Taking a final look back through the years there are many incidents that we'll never forget. Who can ever forget Francis Austin and Paul Albro making beautiful music together or the four teachers we had when we were sophomores? Then there were the wonderful teachers we had, the sandboxes of kindergarten to the modern workshop and metal shop of today. Our class picnics will never be forgotten and neither will the noon hours, playgrounds and our school itself. These will never depart from our memories. These were just a few of the many pleasant memories that we had while riding the wonderful carpet through the years. We made many new friends and sadly enough we had some that moved away but, Genie, we hope you will agree with us that the Senior Class of ,S-4 can deserve to be proud of itself.
