The work we do from day to day seldom taxes our full capacities. We may think we are al- ready working to the limit, but let some unusual de- mand be made upon us and we are surprised to find reserves of strength, ability and endurance within us that we had not suspected. We also discover the interesting fact that these reserves of power are not depleted by maximum use, but rather are built up like those of an athlete in training. We feel a grow- ing sense of mastery, a willingness to face whatever each new day may require of us, and a deep sense of satisfaction in living. Ward Tucker As your principal, it is my sincere wish that each one of you will look back on this year as one well spent climbing the ladder of success. Only through hard work and a, cooperative spirit can good things be accomplished. The student body of the Homedale High School can certainly be highly com- mended for its fine spirit and cooperativeness. In this world of ours there is much to be done. It is to you, the youth of today, toward which all eyes are now focused. In you I am sure we can safely place the destiny of our nation. There has never been a greater challenge, nor has there been a finer group of youth to meet this. 3 Quivey' its 4 C f ae A X112 Jf- 16 A W4 ? f 4' Ella Andrews James Bostwick Brenice Crockett Robert Ferguson Home Economics Social Science-Coach H English , ff Commercial-Coach f , ffff 721 :lf fn' ,iffzilj gfff 1 , ,, 4 iff Md K ,cgf2fff2Y! H They came to the high school for the eighth grade. ean Bloy ejoined them there, and they were all taught by Mr. Claybaugh and Mr. Saxon. At last they were Freshmen! Joining the class were Dixie Lowder, Carmen Salutregui, Geneva McArthur. Carmen Salutregui was elected for Homecoming at- tendent. Lee Townsend was elected first semester Student Body President. Donna Tipton was selected as attendent for Homecoming. The four big events of the year were the Christmas Formal, the Sr. Class Play., Sr. Party, and May 17, when they left the dear old halls of H.H.S. for the last time. P019 QC? It has been nigh on to forty years now since 1 last saw a classmate from the old school. That was back in the tough winter of 1987, when Kent Bergeson and I teamed up to dig the City of New York out after the blizzard. Bergy was the president of the Atomic Aircraft Moving Company at that time and was doing very well. Before leaving Bergy, 1 inquired about our old friends of Homedale High. He was able to give me a story about most of them. It seems that Fred Demshar was importing salt from Siberia but went broke for lack of a market. Merlyn Buck and Clydene Eells were running an ice cream stand in the Belgian Congo, which turned out to be a very prosperous venture. At the last count Bob Greer and Tommy Otto had just rung up their second mil- lion from hill billy records. Gerald Vriens was the president of the recording company where they made their records. Also employed by the company were Carmen Carson and Barbara Benham, famous singers themselves. Dave Aberasturi, Hollywood playboy-actor, had set the nation agog by persuad- ing Louise Upham, the wife of President Metzer to divorce the President and marry him That daring adventurer, Marion Simpson, was reported to have finally settled down ton Marsj after roaming the solar system for fifteen years. Gloria Leavitt and Dixie Lowder were dumping dirt on Mt. Borah in an attempt to make it higher than Mt. Everest. According to a late report they had just reached 15, O00 feet. Marge Sargent, schoolteacher and authouress, had received an invitation to tutor a prince in Afghanistan for a few years. Jim Hinton was being sued by Dennis Leslie. Jim was accused of turning loose his dog while Dennis was displaying his flea circus. Elsie Jesenko, the famous Metropolitan Opera star, was rushed to the hopsital when, after hitting an extremely high note, she found that she was unable to come back down. As I left Bergy I bought a local newspaper from Friel's Snappy News Service nearby. Glancing through it, I noticed an ad for a truck driver by the Moss Construc- tion Company, Incg shoes were on sale at the McArthur-Henley Department Store in Baltimoreg-B-lc1d's Used Car Lot was offering an old 1963 Pontiac for S49,g,Fau1ks Men's Store had a spring space suit for S88. 95. , F 'M Turning to the sports pages, I was pleased to see that Denny Wyman had broken a world record by running the 100 yard dash in 6. 45 seconds. One headline proclaimed that Jolly Joyce Uria had just won two falls out of three over Cagey Carmen Salutregui in the women's wrestling finals. Another noted the arrival in Georgia of Donna Lea Tipton, the first woman ever to swim the Atlantic from East to West. i In the fashions section I noticed that those famous rival designers, Pat Key and Gloria Car en e were engaged in a hot battle over proposed alterations in women's bathing suits. It was getting late so 1 pulled my collar up around my ears and started the journey back to my laboratory where I am perfecting a process that will enable a person to have his cake and eat it too. Time again for a few seniors in band to think of leaving band and relive the years they have spent in band, what fun they had and how much they learned. , Seriously, this year in band has been worth while to all the band members. First of all because we are fortunate enough to have a very talented and interested instructor. We were lucky to have Mr. Hunt back with us again this year, When listening to the band, you yourselves can tell it has improved, be- cause he knows his music and how it should be played. The band may be small in number, but they can always put out some good music which can compare with other bands around us. We also know that the band helps to improve the school spirit at all of the ballgames and that is what helps to make a good school. ln November we furnished the music before both performances of the Junior Class Play. This consisted of several marches and semi-classical numbers. On the evening of January 17, we entertained at the regular P.T.A. meeting. On February IO and II, our band along with the other bands in the Snake River Valley participated in a clinic in Ontario, Oregon. After two days of practicing together, a concert was given for the public on the last night. As we all know, one must have some pleasure along with their work. On January 18, our band took a half day off and went to Caldwell to listen to the practices of Caldwe1l's band and orchestra. This proved to be very interesting and helpful. There were also several parties during the year at which everyone had a grand time. Our band has accomplished much this year. Congratulations to all band members and to Mr. Hunt, our able instructor. Our desire is to keep on climbing upward to a larger and better band for our school. Elsie Iesenko TOP ROW QLEFT TO RIGHTJ: G. Carpenter, D. Tipton, D. Dunning, L. Taggart, D. Tviedt, B. Carrico, D. The award consisted of a gold pin, and Betty Crocker picture cook books for the winner and for the school. There was the opportunity to compete for Idaho's candidate for the title of All-American Homemaker of Tomorrow. The 50-minute written examination consisting of multiple choice and subjective questions tested the students attitude and knowledge in the major areas of homemaking. Myrna Friel received this award in our school and was our representative at the state contest. Myrna has been very active in all school activities, she is a member of pep club, F.
